A group helmed by a major donor and policy adviser to Democratic Senate candidate Michele Nunn is under investigation by the Georgia secretary of State for alleged voter fraud.

Secretary of State Brian Kemp (R) said in a memo, reported by WSB-TV, that his office has “received numerous complaints about voter applications submitted by the New Georgia Project,” an organization launched to register and turn out voters to the polls.

“Preliminary investigation has revealed significant illegal activities, including forged voter registration applications, forged signatures on releases, and applications with false or inaccurate information,” Kemp wrote in the memo.
Nunn is running against Republican David Perdue for a Senate seat left open by the retirement of Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R-Ga.). Democrats see the race as a pick-up opportunity in a year where they are largely playing defense.

Most polls have shown a close race, with Perdue leading Nunn by three points in the most recent survey, conducted earlier this month.

Republicans are seizing on the allegations against the New Georgia Project to tarnish Nunn, suggesting the group was part of a larger effort by Democrats to “expand the electorate by any means necessary.”

“The serious allegations of illegal activities and potential fraud from liberal voter registration groups are outrageous and should be investigated to the fullest extent of the law,” said Perdue spokeswoman Megan Whittemore.

The New Georgia Project and its parent organization, Third Sector Development, were issued subpoenas this week demanding documents relating to the allegations be turned over to the Georgia Election Board by Sept. 19.

Third Sector Development is run by Georgia House Minority Leader Stacey Abrams (D), who has contributed to Nunn’s campaign and was listed on an official campaign strategy document as a proposed member of a group of potential policy advisers.

Abrams said in a statement she was “saddened” by the subpoenas, and that the group is working to comply with them.

Please note that we are discussing a close senate race in the State of Georgia......shocking. Across the country the slam dunk midterms has turned into races. If the Democrats do not lose the Senate in this midterm, the Republicans are in deep trouble in 2016 when 2/3s of the senate seats are Republican held and the majority are in swing states. With Hillary running and women and minorities energized a 60 seat majority in the senate is clearly in the sights of Democrats. It is critical that the Republicans gain the Senate in this midterm. Nunn is kicking asz in Georgia and has gained over 10 points since becoming the candidate and still gaining. I would suggest that some folks are getting desperate, but those folks would not be Georgia Democrats.....they are getting stronger by the day.

For those who don't want to take the time to read all of PACEDOG's article:  A liberal organization is seeking to register voters in Georgia.  Most of these voters are black.  Naturally, GOP lawmakers are going ape shit over this, so the attorney general is targeting this organization for investigation.  To date, the underlying organization is cooperating with the investigation.  It's basically the IRS "scandal", but real and incredibly racist.  The end.

Georgia republicans vowing to block early voting at a predominately black site.

http://talkingpointsmemo.com/livewire/fran-millar-georgia-educated-voters-more-voters

The Georgia state senator who ranted about excessive black voting and vowed to fight a move to expand early voting in DeKalb County defended his remarks on Facebook, saying that he would rather have more educated voters than an increase in the total number of voters.

The Republican state senator, Fran Millar (pictured), wrote that in a comment responding to others on his post where he vowed to end Sunday balloting in DeKalb County because that area is "dominated by African American shoppers" and has "large African American mega churches."

"I do agree with Galloway and I never claimed to be nonpartisan," Millar wrote. "I would prefer more educated voters than a greater increase in the number of voters. If you don't believe this is an efort [sic] to maximize Democratic votes pure and simple, then you are not a realist. This is a partisan stunt and I hope it can be stopped. Furthermore I don't control where people are allowed to vote but am glad Brookhaven has been added for the last week."

That comment came a few hours after Millar published his longwinded email about an appointee of Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal (R) who "has disappointed those of us that hoped he could bring the county together." Millar, in that same email, said that he talked with another lawmaker about ending early voting there.

"Democrats are showing their hand on how they might boost their numbers," Millar wrote.

Also from the same article:

...spokesman for the group, Rev. Dr. Raphael Warnock, said he was hopeful “that this investigation by the Secretary of State is not intended to thwart efforts to enfranchise voters."

Why would Republicans want to thwart efforts to enfranchise voters?

Do Republicans have clean hands when it comes to election fraud? George W. Bush would have lost twice without Republican "electioneering". In Florida in 2000 and in Ohio in 2004.

The story in Georgia is that white voters are polling democratic.....the candidate Nunn is extremely talented and has credibility. She also has a well known father which does not hurt. This race was predicted to be a landslide for Republicans. The same predictions which said the governor races in Wi, Oh, and Pa were going to be freebies for the Republicans. The reality is all three states the Republicans are losing, and in Pa by almost twenty points. Something is afoot in America where all this Obama hate is not jiving with the reality people see. They see somebody fighting for average Americans in a fixed game. They see lower rates in healthcare. They see independence from the chain and ball of employment to keep insured, and they see obvious improvements in the economy from when the President took office. Americans are thinking and questioning the propaganda.......there is something shocking happening this midterm.......a landslide is not developing, and quite the opposite is happening in governor races.

After reading Boards' article, the article PaceDog posted, in the context he posted it in, is full of horse doodoo. Boards' article puts the issue in a better perspective.

Marklehooey and PaceDoghockey......  The runup to the election should be a lot of fun!

Nunn is a good woman from a good family who is squeaky clean and has made this a race based on the issues. It will be close when it was predicted to be a landslide for Republicans. Nobody is safe. Politicians are either going to have to represent the people of this country or face rejection by voters. The worms like Cantor and Senator Butchmeup are actually waking up to the reality that voters cannot be taken for granted.

"This is a very frustrated Lindsey Graham," he added. "Which is a very dangerous thing." ........he sounds like some forum members.....oops....former forum members. The stampede from running is a dangerous thing.

This reminds me of the ACORN "scandal" perpetrated by James O'Keefe...that little vermin. A Congressional report after ACORN was disbanded found no wrongdoing on the part of ACORN, and O'Keefe had to pay $100,000 to the ACORN employees he tried to smear.

In addition, O'Keefe and friends were sentenced for trying to break into the offices of Sen Mary Landrieu (D-LA). O'Keefe paid a $1,500 fine and was sentenced to 3 years probation and 100 hours of community service.

News flash for the GOP: Registering people to vote is not a crime.

It's funny that you keep using that moniker... when the leftist/statist ideas you support have the tragic oppressive history.

But this time it's different... right?
