Putin has evidently achieved an agreement with President Raul Castro of Cuba to operate a "spy" station near Havana.
At the same time he relieved Cuba of all but 10% of its multi-billion dollar debt to Russia, going back to before the Soviet Union fell. Putin is also expanding trade to Cuba.
China has made major inroads in trade agreements with Cuba.
While our dumb-ass congress continues its trade embargo against Cuba, of some 50 years. What have we achieved? Zero. We've not even dented the Castro hold on Cuba's people, who, by the way, support Raul today as they did his brother Fidel. Why shouldn't they? They have free education and healthcare and Raul has been busy liberalizing the economy -- even to the extent that Cubans may now buy and sell property.
Just who benefits if our government continues to treat Cuba as a pariah (which we no longer do to China or Vietnam)?
More importantly, WHO BENEFITS FROM A NEW COLD WAR WITH RUSSIA?
Ah hah. Now we're getting to the real reason so many big defense firms are pushing our elected representatives to ignite the cold war.
Once again, who makes big bucks if we help initiate another cold war with Russia? Every military equipment manufacturer -- that's who. Every single one of them.
What do We the People Get? A continuing failed economy and a renewed threat of nuclear warfare.
