As a strident atheist, I do speak out my opinions on the negativity of all religions. My war is against religion itself, regardless of the specifics.

As an American, and a vet, I have as much right to my disbelief in a supreme entity, as any believer has the right to practice his or her own belief.

And, yes, I am a lifelong member of the ACLU.

I just heard this story today.

(CNN) -- A memorial cross at the National September 11 Memorial and Museum in New York can remain at the newly-opened facility, an appeals court ruled Monday.
A three-judge panel of the 2nd U.S. Circuit found that the cross, located at ground zero, was "a symbol of hope" and historical in nature. It did not intentionally discriminate against a group of atheists who sued to have it removed, they ruled.

What utter bullshit! The cross denotes Christianity, not hope. Furthermore, there were Jews, Buddhists, Catholics, Muslims and other religions represented by the people who were murdered there on 9-11.

Fuck the far right, evangelist Christian fundamentalist three-judge panel of the 2nd U.S. Circuit court -- and I doubt the ACLU won't pursue this in a higher court appeal.

Thanks, it reinforces my observation that all too often the government selectively recognizes Christian symbols.
