Time after time, on every news channel on TV, when the immigration mess is the subject, we hear that the majority of children attempting to make the USA their home are fleeing the violence of their home country's drug cartels.
The governments of most of the third-world countries of Latin America are in bed with the drug cartels -- after all, other than the earnings sent back to their families by illegal aliens working in North America -- the profits of selling drugs in the USA represent their respective country's second-largest source of income!
If we legalize and control drugs -- just like Marijuana is being controlled in Colorado, for example -- we exterminate the drug cartels.
In the countries of Europe where hard drugs have been legalized and the government is the source for addicts, crime rates have radically dropped and the numbers of addicts HAVE FALLEN.
