The average welfare recipient receives approximately:
$700 SSI (more if they have worked)
$200-300 HUD assistance (housing)
$35 Food stamps
-----------------------------
$935-$1035 a month
Then there is Medcaid/Medicare assistance, heating/cooling assistance, assigned case workers to work with them and provide assistance, free cell phones, reduced taxi tickets, reduced movie tickets, etc, etc, etc,...
Total cost per month is probably more than three to four times what I outlined above so let's say $3,000 a month minimum for people on welfare.
This probably wouldn't be so bad if there wasn't over 90,000,000 not in the labor force and more than half of them are on these programs. So let's say there's 50 million of these helpless people.
50 million X $3,000 a month = 150 billion dollars monthly
150 billion dollars monthly / 150 million in labor force = $1,000 a month in taxes from every person in the labor force.
Want some more math?
150 billion dollars monthly X 12 months = 1.8 trillion dollars a year
You'll notice I used the low figure of $3,000. At $4,00 a month...
50 million X $4,000 a month X 12 months = 2.4 trillion dollars a year
And if we assume the 90 million not in the labor force are receiving $4,000 a month in benefits...
90 million X $4,000 X 12 months = $4.32 trillion dollars a year
Looks like welfare recipients make more than someone working their ass off for minimum wage.
