Take Action Thank President Obama & Help Military Families
White House says no BDL/BSL, but what about our military bases?
In response to an online petition that received more than 30,000 signatures, the White House recently issued an official position statement against breed-discriminatory legislation (also called breed-specific legislation):
We don't support breed-specific legislation — research shows that bans on certain types of dogs are largely ineffective and often a waste of public resources.
In 2000, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention looked at twenty years of data about dog bites and human fatalities in the United States. They found that fatal attacks represent a very small proportion of dog bite injuries to people and that it's virtually impossible to calculate bite rates for specific breeds.

This is great news not only because of the White House’s obvious influence, but because breed discrimination exists on military bases. The human-canine bond is important and meaningful to military families, especially children, who benefit from the emotional support of pets.
Pets offer military families a constant and consistent source of love and emotional support, but some military bases discriminate against numerous dog breeds and even mixes. Because military families move frequently, families with banned breeds are forced to relinquish their beloved family companions, who then end up in shelters, where they are often killed and drain already-scarce public resources.
This is America: We should support our military families, including their pets. You have the power to create positive change. Please take action by sending President Obama a message to both thank him for the recent White House statement and to urge him, as commander in chief, to do the right thing on behalf of our military families and end breed discrimination on military bases.
Thank you for taking action and supporting our military families and their pets. Together, we can Save Them All.
Sincerely,
