Great video..that construction guy helped himself a lot but would have been toast without the firemen...This is why firemen will always trump cops..

Hell no. I'd rather get shot at than run into a fire any day.
Hats off to Gunz.

Yeah all these "officer safety" shootings of unarmed victims..when have you ever heard a fireman get all worked up yelling fireman safety, fireman safety?

Not just no, but hell no! I cannot imagine the bravery it takes to go into a burning building.

Cooking spaghetti and playing video games 99% of the time, in exchange for fighting fires the other 1%.

Two days on for three days off.

Yeah, I could handle that.

Cause repeatedly risking your life for strangers is a fair exchange. Yeah, right. Rolling Eyes

I used to work for the City and sometimes I would go downtown and hang out with some of the fireman I knew. One day they had a call near Belmont and Tarragona while I was visiting. I had the city Wrecker so I followed them on the call. It was against the rules but I did it anyways. It was a old 2 story apartment building and it was really burning. I watched Grosso and another fireman run into the burning building to rescue a person who was trapped. They found him and got him out. He was badly burned but still alive. I really could not believe they did it. It was one of the most heroic things I have ever witnessed. They are a special breed of people..

Watching the 9/11 documentary really made me realize how brave they are. Planes flew into buildings, hundreds of people were doing everything they could to get out, and the firefighters (and police) were running in and up the stairs to help. There's just no way I could ever do something like that.

Its the best job in the world until things go South. Boston lost 2 good ffs and injured 18 on a nine alarm fire 2 days ago. Thanks for mentioning Buster Grosso, he was strong as an ox and fearless.

The video of the construction worker on the balcony in the Houston fire is an amazing thing to watch. Watch the amount of fire coming out of the right side of the floor he's trapped on. That lousy wall behind him cannot be much of a barrier to the enormous amount of heat being generated by fire.
The day after the fire, the firefighter on the ladder was interviewed on tv.
He commented that "people will always choose jumping over being burned".
His words reminded me of the World Trade Center on 9/11 and all those people knowingly choosing certain death (by jumping) over being burned.
I cannot imagine any worse predicament to be in than that.

Firemen do not just fight fires. I've had the fire dept. come to my house when a friend of mine was having a diabetic episode. I called the fire dept. when I couldn't lift my MIL off the floor where she had fallen.

The Firefighters and volunteers in South Santa Rosa deserve a big Italian meal today....with the storm that blew through they have worked hard all day....dammit not fighting fires but searching damaged property for trapped victims, assisting with handling down power lines, blocking off flooded streets, and medical calls.

From somebody who doesn't know shit about what it's like for the firefighters or for their families who never know if their loved one will come home from work alive.
