It has long irked me when I see individuals (other than firemen, soldiers, and the like) wearing clothing with the flag stitched or printed on it - especially on the backs of jeans. When the wearer sits he is sitting on the flag!
I do not agree with the judges' reasoning for banning the wearing of the flag.

They were not using FLAGS as apparel. They were shirts with flags on them. There is a difference, but I bet you don't mind when our Olympians drape themselves in a flag for a victory lap around a track like Justin Gatlin did in 2004 after winning the Gold medal, did you? You would be wrong - I do not agree with the athlete's practice. And a shirt with a flag imprinted on it is certainly apparel. A flag patch may be affixed to the uniform of military personnel, firemen, policemen, and members of patriotic organizations. Maybe we are interpreting the code differently. But it doesnt matter - the Supremes have ruled that to enforce the rule would be a violation of the wearer's constitutional rights. Jeesh! I wonder how many of these flags will be worn on apparel during CINCO DE MAYO??

I do not agree with the judges' reasoning for banning the wearing of the flag.

Typical of Progressives. Their first thought is to blame the AMERICANS! No surprise.

Typical of conservatives. Ready to tear heads off in another example of how to harass a non-white minority. The very idea their sacred right to ostracize anyone "different" has been judged improper drives them up the wall.
It seems to me we should be creating ways for high schoolers to respect each other and get-together rather than fight for our right to jeer at each other with elements of national symbols. But then again, I'm a dyed in the wool progressive.
And a non-Christian to boot!

Really? Do we have another minority group bolstered by a group like La Raza who openly calls for Reconquista? Explain which minority group that would be Mr. Wordstinker? Do we have another group that takes more from this country to send back to its homeland than the one this thread is talking about? If you are going to come here and enjoy the fruits of this nation, you could dang sure show some respect and consideration for the people providing it to you. Why are we penalizing Americans over a group that is not showing any loyalty to the nation that makes their standard of living quite a bit better than the nation that the came from? Hmmmm. This decision is unconstitutional at best, but only flies in the land of "fruits and nuts."
So basically youre saying that you agree with racism and segregation. Instead of someone coming here and assimilating when they become an American citizen you agree that since their descendants are from Mexico they should retain that identity instead of being proud to be an American citizen. For the record I disagree with all parades/holidays that celebrate another nationality other than American.Dreamsglore wrote:Gunz wrote:If America is truly a melting pot then one would presume that when you become an American you would have pride in the country to which you have been sworn in as a citizen. It's not about citizenship. It's about Mexican pride and heritage and yes, you are saying they should forget their roots. Nobody says that about St. Patrick's day here. The courts ruling was right and white folks need to respect other's cultures.
Cinco de Mayo (Spanish for "fifth of May") is a celebration held on May 5. It is celebrated in the United States[1] and regionally in Mexico, primarily in the state of Puebla,[note 1][2][3][4] where the holiday is called El Día de la Batalla de Puebla (English: The Day of the Battle of Puebla).[5][6][7] It originated with Mexican-American communities in the American West as a way to commemorate the cause of freedom and democracy during the first years of the American Civil War,[8][9] and today the date is observed in the United States as a celebration of Mexican heritage and pride.[10] In the state of Puebla, the date is observed to commemorate the Mexican army's unlikely victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862, under the leadership of General Ignacio Zaragoza Seguín.[3][11] Cinco de Mayo is not Mexico's Independence Day—the most important national patriotic holiday in Mexico—which is celebrated on September 16.[3][12]

Lee made mistakes yes...he should have died fighting but Santa Anna gave up also so why are we having a problem with La Raza ? Why is the Mexican flag any better than the Confederate?Sal wrote:TEOTWAWKI wrote:Pride and heritage

What you see as the flag are facsimiles. The articles are not made of flags but rather stars and stripes. Personally, I have never seen an American flag sewn onto the back of jeans. I know, I know, you have everywhere.

Being Mexican is an ethnicity not a nationality. Same as being Irish or German.IT HAS NOTHING TO DO W/ CITIZENSHIP. People don't have to forget their heritage to be American. Good grief!
