The result of electing a black American president when our nation is still caught in the throes of virulent racism, and rigidly divided politically, was (I can say now in hindsight) predictable.  Everyone knows that without the white democratic racists who deserted their party after Johnson's civil rights legislation, the current republican party wouldn't be viable.

Without the injection of the dynamics of a newly elected black American president, there was still an uncompromising divide in Washington which would have crippled congress and any new administration -- republican or democrat.

The facts are, that black Muslim guy who was born in Kenya and whose history shows he hates whites, democracy and capitalism, was elected.

And I helped him get there.  Considering what I know about my country's rabid racism, I should have known better!!!

I find the divide to be ideological. If anything the error is a lack of accountability based solely on results. An easy out.

"we can't have special interests sitting shotgun. We gotta have middle class families up in front. We don't mind the Republicans joining us. They can come for the ride, but they gotta sit in back." Obama 2010

That quote was while the dems controlled the house, senate, and presidency... they could've and did pass whatever the fuck they wanted.

What did we get? Entitlement expansion including obamacare... stimulus/bailouts for corps/banks/wall st... and a loose monetary policy that's unprecedented. Now again... what's the result? Has this really helped the middle class in some sustainable way... is the middle class headed in a better direction? To call this observation racist is a cheap shot only bought by partisan hacks... some sort of self affirmation delusion.

3 x 0=0............8 x 0=0..............for those who argue this is all about the 3 or the 8, they fail to recognize the hate and bigotry of zero. The Republican Party has become the party of zero.

You make some valid points -- but what we did get was a totally dysfunctional congress, and an ostensibly "socialist" progressive executive leader who, in pursuit of bipartisanship, kept moving to the right while his major opponents themselves kept moving farther and farther to the right.

The result is astounding unemployment, an ever-widening abyss between the wealthy and those living in poverty, bailouts for major industries, banks and brokerages, and a broken economy.

The healthcare program that Obama and his people fomented was designed to satisfy health insurance companies and the medical industry.

Single payer would have been the correct solution but it was abandoned because Obama and his team didn't think the republicans would allow it to happen.

Obama was right.

Basically, he's a good guy hung-up with the problems of being a black president and a liberal, instead of just being the president of the Dis-united States of Amerika.

The dysfunctional qualities of our government were exacerbated by electing an African-American as president.

Reality.

The reality is that obamacare was passed without any republican support... single payer could have been shoved down our throat had there been democratic support for it. However... the only thing worse than total govt control... is nationalization.

BS

The Repukes just use Obama's race as a rallying cry to get their flying monkeys in a froth.

Their agenda remains the same regardless of the race of their opponent.

Do you think the results would've been substantively different had Hillary been elected?

I don't.

And the Dems would be negative integers then Seaoat.... As in our new debt limit being expanded to 18 trillion. I think being zero is of more value.

Obama would be a worthless leader whatever color he was ......or could become. He's going to screw Hillary out of her chance because no way does another Dem get elected in 2016

And that is the humorous part.

[b">Sal, you may be right.  But if she's elected president, I doubt that the opposition to Hillary will be as vehement and rabid as it has been to Obama.  It appears this question will be answered by reality after the next presidential election, if Mrs. Clinton can win against such stalwart, and experienced politicians as Romney, Cruz, Rubio, and that libertarian guy, what's his name . . . ?

Your past predictions on election results have been so wrong that I wouldn't trash-talk about it if I were you......

The people I like, like Nader, Bernie Sanders, Alan Grayson, Elizabeth Warren will probably not run, nor if they did run would they likely be elected.

Once again, this country was founded by and still is run by the rich, for the rich and of the rich.

And it doesn't appear anyone at present will break away from that path.

To hell with it. I'm sending for my Snowden Team T-shirt.

Didnt vote for Obama, but was hopeful that his election would instill some pride or satisfaction in much of America - especially Blacks - that we had "finally" done the right thing. Sadly Obama seems to have abandoned the African Americans, leaving them upset/disallusioned, and that makes the Obama presidency a zero sum gain in terms of race relations.

I voted him in the first go around , But after about a year or so I just got depressed --sure didn't vote for him again--I thought maybe it would bring blacks and whites closer more united --Boy was I wrong . And now with all his my way or no other way attitude well im just sick of it , I feel there is more racial divide now -that makes me sick , both sides just back and forth BS.-- Crying or Very sad

Sal wrote: gubament solutions

Let me tell you about my "gubament solution", Sal.

I'm a diabetic. Being a diabetic, I need to check my blood sugar level at home to make sure it doesn't go too high.

On Jan 1, my obamacare policy took effect. On Jan 3rd, I went to the doctor for a checkup. He wrote me a scrip for diabetic supplies (test strips and lancets).
The drug plan part of that policy required that I order the supplies mail order.
I called the obamacare phone number. It took me over an hour being transferred around from one place to another to finally get the person who could take the order. Which he did.
It is now six weeks later and I have never received the supplies.

On Feb 1, my medicare policy replaced the obamacare policy. Medicare supposedly lets me get the supplies when I walk in to a pharmacy. So I went back to the doctor to get another scrip. And then I took that scrip to a CVS pharmacy when it opened yesterday morning. The pharmacist says "a scrip is not what we need". Medicare requires something else and she said she would contact the doctor to get whatever that is faxed to her. She took my phone number and said she would call me when the thing has been resolved.
Here it is 24 hours later and I'm still waiting to get the supplies so I can test my blood sugar.

Why in gods name did these incompetent government bureaucrats that you worship not ever send me the fucking shit before. And why in gods name would these incompetent government bureaucrats need anything more than a fucking doctor's prescription scrip to fill a prescription now.

The answer is because this fucked up government you worship is fucked up. That's why.
