Though the Republican Vice Presidential choice of Sarah Palin in 2008 caused a stir with questions about her competence to be president should a mid 70's John McCain become incapacitated, the harsh reality is, the presidential candidates and their running mates from either of the two main parties doesn't really matter who sits in the Oval Office. That's because the ultimate policy choices of endless war, unnecessary defense spending, the dominance of the big corporate and special interests influence over the electoral process and the political agenda in favor of those interests does NOT change regardless of which major party's candidates is elected.

Reality!

Then we're doomed, because being the "police of the world" makes money for our biggest corporations. Reality.

Unfortunately, taking this larger picture of MIC spending into account, I'd have to agree with you. The general direction of military spending is upward.
However, I can't see a Democratic president launching the cooked up war in Iraq. Nor can I imagine who a President McCain would have nominated to the Supreme Court.

Here's a reason that it does matter...right/wrong/agree/disagree...Rep Ryan has passed economic legislation in the House..The COWH and the Senate has done NOTHING...Even if the passed legislation was simply a starting point for communication/negotiations it would be much better than what has taken place up to this point...First there would have to be some agreeable points so get that done and move forward...this however should have been done months/years ago and the opportunity has been missed..The US Senate under Sen Reid has passed nothing and seem to be pleased with their incompetence...The COWH is campaigning against Rep Ryan and yet he (Ryan) is the only one that has passed legislation...

Can GOP Dump Romney and Nominate Ron Paul?
http://americanfreepress.net/?p=5452

“…What remains to be seen surrounding Romney’s mysterious ventures is enough to make victory-minded Republicans uneasy. That’s why supporters of Paul urge the GOP to dump Romney and pick the one GOP contender who can unquestionably draw clear lines of demarcation between himself and the Democratic incumbent—and win the presidency on 2012..”

It would make the 2012 election one of the most exciting in my lifetime......
