CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Startling new figures about the state of our economy have recently come out.

Ninety-two percent of African American male teenagers in Chicago don't have a job.

A trend that continues to head in the wrong direction, for white and Hispanic teens, too.

The jobs catastrophe here is far worse than the national average.

These shocking numbers released by the Chicago Urban League are one more grim result of Illinois having 600,000 fewer jobs today than we did in the year 2000. Work that teens traditionally did, from delivering newspapers to flipping burgers, is now done by adults desperate for any income.

Most of my friends flipped burgers as kids in high school and college....look at your local burger places.....those folks flipping burgers are not kids......the key question is how do we train kids for the 4 million jobs which cannot be filled because of skill sets coming out of schools which do not match jobs....for 30 years vocational training was a dirty word in our high schools.....we need someone who can program a CNC machine and not quote Emerson teaching our kids......business/school partnerships must start with giving kids marketable skills.

That's right. because this economy stinks. all the middle wage jobs have dried up. Those jobs that would be the older people.

and your showing your age with the vocational comment. its not and has not been a dirty word for a long time, except to snobby well to do people who already can afford to go to college. the problem is even with that is how to afford even just vocational school. for poor people even 4-5 thousand dollars is almost impossible to come up with.

then you have the other factor, our culture of kids these days are LAZY for the most part because they have been brainwashed by big GOV all the way through school , on tv, by politicians etc etc so many of them don't want to work. they would rather get high and maneuver the system and other people for their basic needs.. YOLO Generation.

I remember the enlightened policies to transition into a service economy decades ago... the people all nodding in unison as trade agreements sold manufacturing out from under the middle class. I'm not sure what the surprise is... designed to fail.

The good news is that the latitude to socially engineer our economy has grown exponentially.
