Is Iran the 800 LB Gorilla in the Mideast?

Iran has always wanted to be the lead dog in the Mideast and its actions are speaking louder than words. They are crushing their economy to build up their armed forces in spite of the many sanctions in place. Of course they have help from unlikely sources including Russia. Why is Russia so careful in condemning Iran? Can you say warm water ports and another source of oil under favorable terms? With Syria in major turmoil Iran continues to support Assad. They continue to advance their nuclear program although weapons are the big question mark. They have a nut case as President who, if you read his background, sounds like he could be Putin’s clone. And of course Iran is a well-documented supporter for terrorists regardless of the target country. What is Iran going to do in the future? Any opinions?

Is Iran the 800 LB Gorilla in the Mideast? Country-distribution-2011 Our country is being taken over by the MIC and not too many seem to care. They tell us that SS won't be around for too long but nobody wants to mention this crazy spending.

Iran is an 800 lb. gorilla for neocons who can't get their fill of war.

Iran isn't a military threat to anyone and should be left alone. Oh, they can make plenty of trouble around the Straits of Hormuz if provoked enough--but if they are left unprovoked, the vital oil routes through the straits will be okay. That is why they need to be left alone.

This stuff about an Iranian nuclear threat to Israel is nothing but smoke and mirrors--totally unproven. Israel is the world's only undeclared nuclear state--a "rogue nuclear state" by definiton. They are a nuclear threat to everyone around them, and probably the U.S., too (should Congress ever cut off their massive annual foreign aid allotment).

I honestly believe that we(the USA) would only use nukes in selfe defense.

Shock-n-Awe on Iraq damn sure wasn't self defense and we killed many innocent civilians. What's the difference how someone dies when they all end up dead anyway?

Big difference when it involves nukes.

More people die from gunshots in chicago everyday than in iraq. What if the gangs of chicago had nukes? iran is just a big crazy gang wanting to wipe out its rival gang(Israel), then us. Never let anyone who hates you have access to the same weapons that you have.

I don't think iran should have nukes but I don't think isreal should have them either. I think we should get the hell out of there and cut off all aid to Everybody.

Two thumbs up! Iran should give-up on aquiring nuclear weapons, but I don't trust the Israelis as a nuclear power, either. Their Jehrico III IRBM can reach most parts of the world, including parts where they have no military enemies. Why they need the capability to nuke Norway or South Africa is beyond understanding--unless of course, their nuclear arsenal is meant for purposes besides keeping their regional Arab enemies in check.

Israel would like to make Iran the next boogeyman. Israel is the problem; not Iran. My friend, a Vietnam-era Marine, spent time living in Israel on a kibbutz. He's German; go figure. But he gets very defensive when confronted with the fact that Israel's government now is extremely right-wing and they're committing genocide against Arabs.

You're confused about who's the man with the power in Iran. While Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has the title of President in Iran. He has little real power. The real decision maker in Iran is, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The office of President in Iran is more akin to our Secretary of State.

I don't believe that assertion at all. Just like Iraq would have "used" the drones they mythically held which were capable of spreading biological agents all over the world. Along with all of the other mythical WMDs Bush and company claimed the Iraqis had. At some point, truth must be separated from fantasy.

Actually I am not confused at all. There is a power struggle between the Ayatollahs and Ahmad. He may be their mouthpiece but he wields considerable power in his own right.
