Thanks Bob, I have my outside faucets covered. The best and cheapest method is to use a diaper. Will drain the pump this afternoon.

I know DE we are baby's down here lol. My son is up in the midwest and I don't believe in his life he has seen the temps you guys up there are going to experience. I have been trying to explain to him to leave all the cabinets open under sinks so the heat from the house will help not to freeze his pipes and maybe to turn them on before he goes to bed to a slow drip. I have experienced those temps and it's no fun to be out in it. I have been down here 22 years and I am freezing today and it's in the 50's, I can never imagine living up there again.

My daughter is in SW North Dakota. They are expecting a wind chill in the next day or so of -67. (They won't be leaving the house).

Can't blame them I'd stay in too. I can remember around 40 years ago the wind chill being around 30 below for a few days in a row, you're furnace does not shut off and if you do go out for any amount of time you can never get warm when going back inside.

Talent like the weather is pretty easy to determine, and I will bet somebody in Green Bay will be shirtless in about ten minutes......and claim it is warm out.

A 75 watt light would not be a bad idea for your pump. You can pull the clean out cover and make sure there is no water in it. The break very easily in cold weather.

Just saying some pump designs hold water around the impeller. Just a suggestion.

Thank you.....my pool pump (variable speed) runs all the time. All I have ever done is drain the sprinkler pump.

Usually after a hard freeze a couple of people would bring in their pumps all busted to hell or even have a small crack and want someone to weld it up. It can be done but it is not easy and very time consuming. Old cast iron is a real bitch to work with. You are very smart to drain the pump but i would suggest you also keep it covered.
