Leaders betting lots on upcoming SunRail launch

Trains are the 3rd most fuel-efficient means to move passengers and cargo; right behind motorcycles. The most fuel-efficient means to transport anyting is by vessel. Trains can also be run by just about any power source--BNSF railroad is currently experimenting with powering some of its trains with compressed natural gas.

This is Florida and we can't afford it.

Dork, next time read the article before making lame comments.

"...Florida Gov. Rick Scott rejected more than $2 billion in federal high-speed rail funding in 2011 that would have connected Tampa and Orlando. But after some hesitation, he eventually approved a deal that opened construction for SunRail after being sold on its jobs creation benefits and potential to reduce congestion on Interstate 4, the region's main east-west highway..."

As you well know, the issue was, and always has been, about high speed rail.

Sunrail is not high speed rail.  Even California has trashed their high speed rail plans as being unaffordable.

This has nothing, whatsoever, to do with high speed rail, which we cannot afford and would be subsidizing forever.

This also will take NOTHING off of the I-4 corridor.

Keep up you denial, it in your DNA.

Zvug,

Moron it's a test and nothing else. It's only being tested there because of population density. Until gas is prohibitively high, people aren't going to give up their cars for this type of transportation. People are in love with their cars too. They don't make those 5-600 per month payments on Lexus etc just to ride this rail, which as was pointed out, is not high speed. Read your own article before trying to BS others.

Where did I ever mention high-speed rail, Dilbert? I simply referred to "mass-transit rail projects."

Which has never been an issue.
