My question has to do with why Romney's religion is important but Obama's isn't?
I already answered that. Neither's religion is important.
Both sides are gonna use that to distract us.

I believe you Bob. You're not the one who started the thread. FT has started a number of threads like this, bashing Mormons and saying that they are scary. But she has no comment about Obama's own "Kingdom on earth" statement and in fact, she seems to not even be aware of anything Obama has said regarding his religious beliefs.

A fairly comprehensive site. Scary.

I wouldn't worry too much because Obama is building God's Kingdom here on Earth for all of us.

I'm sorry but I don't understand what you object to in Obama's statement about "God's kingdom here on earth for all of us." I sat in many Baptist
sermons and heard about "God's kingdom here on earth." to me, it meant that we had God's love in our heart.

The country is living beyond it's means and nothing is happening to change that.
It's not changing because the politicians who might want to change that cannot get elected.
So it becomes a huge dog and pony show.

Let me make an analogy to a television game show. We're all out here watching people win all this merchandise.
But behind the scenes those "winners" are being told that before they take the "showcase" or what's behind the curtain, they have to pay all the taxes on it. And this is absolutely the truth, they don't even take most of that crap they "win" because they either cannot or do not want to pay the taxes on it.
They're just actors in a show and they don't even know it.

It's all a ruse. And so is the election campaign.

I have never heard that statement in a Baptist church. Baptists are about Earth being full of sin and sorrow and heaven being a place you go when you die if you're saved.

Anyway, it's interesting that you interpret Obama's words to mean something good for all of us, while Romney is said by FT to have 'scary' beliefs. Romney hasn't gone around talking about what he believes in a way that might make some think that he wants to push his religion onto the entire earth.

I just gave everyone who posted to this page in this thread a plus vote.
That's the only vote I'll make between now and the end of year that will mean shit.

I'm going to bed.

I'm not a religious person, but I have read the Bible from cover to cover out of curiosity. If I'm not mistaken, God's kingdom on Earth is mentioned several times in Revelations and probably elsewhere, so what's the problem? Did Rick Warren have a problem with it?

Good night Bob....And hey, I've been watching that show that's filmed on the Gulf Coast about the 4 teams that compete with antique shopping...then they meet back in a barn for two antique expert guys to tell them what their goods are worth. It's kind of interesting but those two expert appraisers look totally out of place in the barn, lol.

But Buttman, Wheel of Fortune gives people cash when they win a car. I thought that was pretty good of them. I think they have been doing it for a year or so now.

So, not ALL game shows are not a rip-off... just most of 'em. Razz

Revelations...now that's interesting you'd say that. I bet if Romney went around talking about Revelations the way that Obama talked about his creating a Kingdom on Earth....it wouldn't be so harmless sounding to y'all. FT would be all over it, talking about how scary it is. And you know what--it WOULD be scary!

Why? Rick Warren is an evangelical, and evangelicals really dig Revelations. I think Obama was just playing to the audience. Nothing scary about that.

BTW, I think all religions are absurd.

I guess that proves that we went to different Baptist churches together.

I find it interesting that you are concerned about what I think about the Mormons, but you don't come out and name Obama's church. What church does he affiliate himself with?

I have lived around Mormons and also find them to be good people. I have known many people of all different beliefs who are good people. I also happen to have several family members who are Mormon. But if you studied the Mormon religion and got to know what they believe, you might also think they are kind of scary.

So Obama is lying about what he claims to believe, so all is OK. But Romney is serious in his religious beliefs so he's scary? Is that it?

My ex wifes family were very big(some still are) into the Reorganized Church of Latter Day Saints. I used to go to church on Jackson and T st. Later on they started a outreach church on Jackson and 65th in the little mall , next to Peter Pan Bakery,I helped build and was a active member for a few years. Later on my Daughter went to RLDS college(Graceland) in Lamoni Iowa.
They were and still are good people. Hard to believe but I was never "forced" to believe anything. I questioned many things and 99% of the time no one had a issue with it. I am not here to defend them except to say that there are worse things you can do with you time.
My daughter was a tour guide in Nauvoo, the place where they left from to go to Utah. The Mormons and the RLDS now share the place. Just a fact, John Smiths wife (Emma Smith) did not go to Utah but stayed in Nauvoo with the name of Reorganized LDS.
They have rebuilt part of the town of Old Nauvoo and have many of the artifacts that were used when the early days. They even have a wagon that made the trip to Utah . i spent the best part of a day looking it over..Very very ingenious. But many did not have a wagon so they used pull carts. Whether you like them or not they have a hell of a story to tell. Two very good books are "Kingdom on the Mississippi Revisited" and a book named "In Old Nauvoo". Good reading. I was surprised at the honesty about some of their failures........But the RLDS(now called The Community Church of Christ) in not to be confused with the Real Mormons......

.....

I don't know what church Obama affiliates himself with these days. FT is the religion investigator, although her investigation seems totally one-sided. My point was to Obama's own words about his beliefs and why that is not an issue for FT.

Granny....Baptists talk about the "Kingdom of God". They are referring to heaven and Christ's 2nd coming (some think that Christ will rule on Earth for 1000 years).
A "Kingdom here on Earth" is not anything I've heard a Baptist say or preach about being created here and now, before Christ's return. But maybe your experience is with a different kind of Baptist.

I think too many people worry about an after life and don't enjoy the life they should be living. I wouldn't want to be in a "heaven" with the ones who "claim" to be christians. I'm not afraid of dyin, any time will do..

so, exactly what is Pres. Obama's religion...?

we know that romney is a clown who wears "magic" underwear and believes that an angel showed some gold plates to.....

oh hell.....i'm not even gonna bother trying to tell this ridiculous story. it ranks right up there with scientology and george carlin's frisbeeology.

when we die, our soul goes up on the roof of the garage and we can't get it down.

there's stupid, and then there's barnyard stoopid.

that's where the mormon's come in to this equation.

and i really don't give a rat's ass if that bothers you one way or the other. i love mormons...i would love to have them as neighbors on both sides.

but i don't want that vulture capitalist liar, tax evading off shore banking magic underwear poser as my POTUS.

and the only other choice i have is the current POTUS.

it's not a hard choice to make.

If you believe in a higher being and believe that you will face judgement some day or be held somehow accountable for your deeds, what matters is how you live your life in the here and now.

TEOTWAWKI

TEOTWAWKI

Well I can't go to church anywhere anymore...I believe that Christ came back in AD 70 and destroyed the old world...The system that was under the law..and began the new kingdom the system that is under love and mercy. When you croak you go straight to your reward. Seems simple enough to me that there will be NO RAPTURE and that all those waiting for it are doomed to disappointment...I am a Preterist..try to find that church anywhere...AKA "Realized eschatology".

Nekochan

So Teo, you think that most everything that Christians are waiting to happen...have actually already happened?
Very interesting.

I don't think, I am certain...but that won't fill the pews with paying customers people like the idea of a second coming....of course I am also certain the towers were imploded so take it for what it's worth.

I really don't see how any one who defends bush, romney or obama can consider themselves a "christian".. I truly think y'all are a bunch of Posers, if I can pick you out I'm sure your god can too. I damn sure wouldn't want to be in your "heaven"..
