I was raised in Louisville and pretty much grew up at Churchill Downs. 


One of my earliest memories was staying home from school sick with my Dad, and he took me out to the track and told me not to tell Mom.

So, I'm proficient at reading the Form. 


Yesterday's pick was strictly by eyeballing them, tho.

When I was a kid I hated school. 


I'd play hooky any chance I got. 


And, that would include feigning illness when I was a little guy. 


The mystery to me is in why my Dad was the one staying home with me that day. 


He never stayed home. 


We sat in the grandstand on that cool, bright, autumn day. 


I remember it like it was yesterday, when after one of the races, an old African-American man threw his program to the ground, turned to me, and said, "Never bet against a grey, son.  Never bet against the grey.".


I was maybe five or six years old.


I've pondered that ever since.

My father in law was from Chicago. He loved the ponys. After i married into the family I was always invited to go the track with him and his friends. Most of the time the "fair Grounds" in New orleans. I would drive and at the track I would be the "go-fer". Go get sandwiches, beer, etc and buy and cash their tickets. After a few beer they would get loose when their money. when they would hit a winning ticket they always gave me a big tip or just took the 20s. I used to make a lot of money!! They loved to be high rollers. they would usually tap out but I still had mine. I never said a word on the way back about how much I had skimmed off of them.. People used to ask "Why do you go the track? You dont gamble" LOL Fun times, He is gone now but I bet he is still making book some where....

FSU jumped Oregon in the latest BCS poll. Alabama #1 FSU #2. However in my line of thinking, when Oregon beats #5 Stanford on Thursday night, next week's polls will probably change again. I also think that would be a travesty since the best 2 college teams are now sitting on top of the heap.

The Stanford D must corral Marcus Mariota if they are to have any chance of beating the Ducks.

I cant help it....... Its been a long time.
