What the hell are those hand signs the fans behind home plate at Fenway flash after every strike out?


They appear to show some kinda symbols.

No, actually they're little handheld paddle signs.

They are neon colored with what looks to be oriental symbols on them.

As soon as a strike out occurs, the people holding them quickly flash the signs and put them down.

Very odd.

My Japanese has gotten rusty, but it appears to be the characters for the number 3, which apparently is the Japanese version of the K signs that fans post in other venues.
