SeaOat The dog track called me a few minutes ago.. I'm in the top 100 winners for the month and am automatically entered in the monthly winners tourney at 1:00 tomorrow, Sat the 1st.. I hope to seew you there and maybe we'll try to take each other out!!!! LOL

I am going to be building a quarter mile road for the next two weeks and will not be playing much poker. A free roll is always fun. What I like about the dog track is they have a reasonable buy in for their tournament structure. It does not cost an arm and a leg to play.

I will, health depending, stop in late December or early January and will give you a PM without identifying myself that I will play in a tournament and see if we can pick one we both can make. I love the competition. I love the bad beats. I had an ace high flush on the flop playing in a 10.20 hand Tuesday night and the river gave my opponent a straight flush....I lost a couple hundred dollars but felt alive and excited to see a straight flush.....I just wish I had it.

I think greyhound allowing poker has been a great economic boost and I am happy for the dealers who get to keep their individual tips. I hate it when they have to split the tips with everybody. Each dealer should be rewarded by their talent level. The dog track has good dealers, and very good retired military players. Good luck in your tournament and let us know how you do. I will play in two year end tournament where I have won a free roll and the buy in is five hundred. December 1, and December 7 I will be playing in tournaments of champions. Fifty thousand prize pools and thirteen thousand for first......lots of fun, but the world series circuit tournament was just flat out exciting with 2500 people playing. I plan on playing more this winter, but right now I am cutting a road out and compacting a gravel base.

I hate when they have anything during Snowball Derby week.. I'll be at 5 Flags or someplace related to the race from 3-8 Dec. I'm sure we'll spend time across the table from each other when the time comes. In the tourneys, the $10 extra goes to the dealers and also a few extra chips.. That cuts out the tipping the dealers because really, the chips are useless if they aren't in the games..

I always buy the dealer appreciation ten bucks for dealer tips.......I appreciate the conversation and fun at the poker table, and a good dealer can make the experience even better. My tournament play has lagged behind my cash game play this year having only won two tournaments and for the first time in four years I may not show a positive win........however, the world series competition was way above my normal player competition. A thousand hands as a recreational player I am going to make 10 mistakes, they will make one or maybe two.......A tournament can often become work, and I still play for the enjoyment and challenge.

I'm strictly for the enjoyment of the game.. I fold an occasional winning hand, but lose a lot more hands to lucky idiot players that win on a lucky river when they happen to get the case card needed for the gut shot straight or straight flush.. I'm already planning on finishing in the money, even if I have to fold hand after hand pre or post flop, until the cards turn and start coming in my favor for a few hands.. You know they come in streaks that last 3-5 hands until they change to somebody else.. I have NO idea if I'll agree with the other players and split the purse when it gets down to 5-6 players and they ask "is everybody ready to split the purse".

I know LESS than nothing about poker...if that is possible.

HOWEVER, my guess is that if you believe tomorrow is Saturday, the FIRST of November, that you put you at a distinct disadvantage.

I have found that Greyhound has very good women players. Last time I played there was a retired Santa Rosa School teacher who wanted to buy an eighty dollar blouse to play in a golf event at the country club the next weekend. She and I both got two quads and it was a promotion night and she and I put two hundred in our pocket. She kept hers in her pocket because she beat me like a rug, Ipulled mine out and lost another two hundred.....those retired school teachers from Milton, are dangerous........she said she was going to buy that blouse........good people having fun.

last time I played the dog track in pcola I had 4 aces and they gave me a Tshirt.

long time ago.....

I come from a family of poker players, not professional. just players. I sat on my daddies knee as a small child watching him play poker. during thanksgiving we always played penny poker. Not anymore though. Those were the good old days.

When you come back to town for a visit, you should try to get another T shirt. I always go for the hats. I remember when people in the PNJ were trying to convince people that Poker was going to have all these unsavory characters threatening the good people.........hell, I feel like I am in church when playing at Greyhound......you get a quiet apology when somebody guts you with quads on the river......where I play sometimes people slow roll and laugh at you. Pensacola is good people.

pokers not my thing, its my dads thing. thankfully we went because he could still barely see then, now he cant. He was so proud I did well. It was worth it to go there although I was very nervous as that's not my thing. I felt very uncomfortable. But I did it for him, had a couple of drinks to loosen me up and my dad was getting in his old mojo lol.. it was amusing. I won more than that hand, btw... Im no pro, but I grew up around poker players, pool halls etc.. I can be a little hustler when need be Twisted Evil

anyway, not sure when ill get up that way again, was hoping to soon. maybe not. im going to jville in 2 weeks, probably my last vaca for a long time. But I do LOVE to bet on the dogs... I was FOR the poker room btw

for the poker, agin the bb stadium Razz lol

I know Saturday is the 2nd.. It's a very special day for me..
I agree there are mostly good people at the dog track.. I won a hat for quads the first time I played there soon after it opened.. I've been playing poker 51 years already.. They were mostly friendly dime/quarter or quarter/half games with a three raise limit.. I think most people lose more money if playing for small stakes because of the "it's only a quarter" mentality, and will stay in for that gut shot straight on the river after calling 3 raises after the 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th cards in regular 7 card stud, instead of folding, especially if one of the cards is up and there MIGHT be one left in the undealt cards..

Thank you Chrissy.. I'm just going to play MY cards and have some fun.. I have all intentions of finishing in the money, but the main thing is to have fun..

I'm the 36th one out after losing 2 good hands in a row on the rivers..  Ace high flush on the flop lost to a full house on the river and the next hand a full house on the flop lost to a bigger full house on the river..
I'll just have to play another $50 tourney to get in the winners tourney for November..  :-)

congrats!

I have a question. Is the $50 the entry fee?

Just like life.....poker has things happen which are not suppose to happen and are statistically rare, but life is wonderful, and you do the best with the cards you have. I am still smarting from losing with an ace high flush to a damn straight flush on the river, but sometimes you simply have to take your hat off and get up with a smile......Chit happens.

The fifty bucks is the entry fee. I have played entry fees from fifty to five hundred. I did not spend the sixteen hundred on a World series entry, and I now doubt I will ever put the 10k up for the big show. My skills are not good enough, and luck can only get you so far.

Yes Chrissy, they are usually $50 to enter and most players buy extra chips for $10 that goes to the dealers.. They do not allow tipping the dealers after winning a hand, so they split all of the money from the extra chips that are sold..

I agree Sea Oat.. The odds are you will win with some good hands, but pure 100% luck will beat all of the skill in the world sometimes..

It's fun getting good hole cards... and easy to play usually. I've learned that you need to accumulate more chips to win tourns than just your occasional good hands will provide. Partly because how rarely you get those hands... but also because you can't maximize those hands with a tight/conservative image. There are times I'll gamble knowing that the pay off will give me a stack that means I can bully and put people to tests... to allow me to play your cards... not just mine. Chips to me are a means to buy information... and that's a distinct advantage.

Ya... I'm "that guy" at the poker table.

I did buy/bluff 1 hand today.. I had the lead bet and 5 players called the first bet, then checked after the flop and turn.. A duece came up on the river, giving me a pr of dueces.. I bet 5 times the minimum and everybody folded.. LOL

71My first braclet tournament - Page 3 Empty Re: My first braclet tournament 11/2/2013, 6:42 pm

A bluff is never a good thing without position and implied possibility. I will routinely raise a bet if it is three to a flush, a pair is on the board, or a straight has developed, it does not take long for the person with those cards to challenge, and then the all in bet.......this worked great in the world series event because professionals just do not take the risk at this juncture, but I made a critical mistake to do this with the chip leader. His pair of threes allowed him to hunt for the set, and beat my queen six bluff. A mistake I will not repeat. You do not go over the top on a chip leader, too low a percentage to risk at any juncture. Stay away from chip leader unless you have the nut hand..

I agree, but that was 1 hand that I ended up winning.. It was the only hand I bluffed or bought with a raise.. Many of them went all in with garbage 64 or 73 hands and were called by someone with pocket kings or queens.. The best hand I won was with pocket jacks with the big blind.. I got the set on the turn with J83 nonsuited.. I just bet the minimum and was raised, by all in so I called and took him out.. Following that was hand after hand of folding 27 38 or garbage like that..
