Hayward defended the proposal process, He chastised the Creative Group—The Fish House, Varona’s, Bagelheads and Pensacola Bay Brewery—for not filing a protest when they were notified that OHM—Chick-fil-A, Einsten Bros. Bagels, Surf City Squeeze and Corona Beach House—was being recommended for the contract.

He said, “Creative did not adhere to the protest process. Creative did not file a protest. Instead, they ambushed the City Council meeting last week.”

The mayor explained why he pulled the vote from the Oct. 10 meeting, an action our paper had question since it was the city council that had voted to add it to meeting. According to Hayward, he had the right to pull the item since it was his recommendation.

“Quite a few of our City Council members were out of town attending an economic development conference earlier in the week,” he stated. “Council members are still gathering data and asking questions. I want to make sure they have the time they need to get their questions answered.”

He defended the process and accused a few people (unnamed but he appears to be referring to Collier Merrill and Robert de Varona) of pressuring the council.

It is a terrible idea to disregard our objective business processes in response to a few influential people politically strong-arming our elected officials,” the mayor stated. “We must give businesses wanting to bring jobs to our community every assurance they are competing on a fair playing field.”

He added, “I promised Pensacola I would raise the bar. I brought a contract – it delivers national, quality brands to Pensacola International Airport, a million dollars more in revenue, 100 local jobs, and a minimum purchase of $600,000 annually from local vendors.

I have no clue what this is all about, but if it means they might open another chik-fil-a downtown I'm all for it. Are they gonna put it in stooderville?

But look, let's not get too giddy over the prospect of another chik-fil-a.
I know that chik-fil-a guy is a big christian and stuff. But I would be willing to bet you money he gets his chickens from the same place colonel sanders does. One of those chicken raising torture chambers that shoots them up with antiobiotics and other shit.

He might be buying them from them gooks in China or where ever they live. Hell, they might even be working in chicken factories.

My vote goes to Hot Spot Barbecue.  That's the new barbecue joint they've opened at 9th and Larua.  I tried it night before last and it's really good.
It's Georgia style barbecue.  Georgia style barbecue sauce is red/white sauce (made with both ketchup and vinegar) as opposed to Texas sauce (all red) and eastern North Carolina sauce (all white).
If you've ever had Sprayberrys BBQ in Newnan Ga, then you'll love this cause it's just as good.

That's what I would put in the Intergalactic Airport.

I think a joint venture between McGuire's, Franco's, and Crabs would be a win win win for the area.. I know Crabs is owned by McGuire's so they can bid on it without Franco's and we would still have good food and a money maker at the airport.. Maybe a limited menu of McGuire's sandwiches and burgers along with some of the quicker items from Crabs We Got Them..

My dad made his own bbq sauce, and I assure you there was vinegar in it.

My vote is for the local joints to get the airport consessions. But honestly, since the Pcola airport is a destination airport and not a layover airport, most pax are not very interested in extending their stay at the airport by having a beer or meal. It's not like Atlanta, where, if you have a lengthy layover, you kill the time in one of the bars or restaurants. I fly fairly frequently. My departure routine is to get a coffee (sometimes a pastry) at Varonna's. My arrival routine is to bypass all consessions, get my luggage and get into a taxi.

Our routine as well. We depart in the morning and return late afternoon or evening.....not enough people and lay-overs to support multiple concessions. We may be an international airport.....but it's name only and no connecting flights.

How about letting the people leaving and arriving on flights decide by asking them.. Just a little handout with a few questions would work.. I'm sure most people would be willing to answer a few questions.. NO names or any personal info, just a few questions about their preference..
