Tropical Storm Karen’s waves are churning up the Gulf of Mexico and will likely stir up tar balls or tar mats still lingering under the sand from 2010’s BP oil spill disaster.
The Coast Guard is encouraging the public to report any tar balls or pollution that may surface as a result of Karen, or in the wake of Karen, to the National Response Center (800)424-8802 or www.nrc.uscg.mil.
“Personal safety is paramount, so people should wait for weather conditions to subside before venturing out to the beach,” said Lt. Commander Natalie Murphy, Deepwater Horizon Response spokeswoman. “Once conditions are safe, we will investigate all reports and take the appropriate action for clean up and disposal.
We pissed away all the BP money on everything BUT cleaning up the Gulf!!
