I have a science-background. I got my MS in Biology and Coastalzone Studies from UWF in 1992 (I went to grad school kinda late; I was 40 when I graduated). In 1991, I took a course in Coastal Morphology and Processes from the late Dr. James Morgan; a reknowned professor of coastal processes who retired from LSU and was a professor-emeritus at UWF. We spent alot of time out on Santa Rosa Island measuring sand-dune height and the interaction between the beach and wave action. This guy knew his stuff, and his exams were very hard. How many times did the subject of global warming/rising sea levels come up during his course? Not once. Something of this significance would not have escaped this man's attention, if it were an important issue.

None of my professors ever mentioned global warming or climate-change at all in any of my courses during 1991-1992. Kyoto happened in 1997. What happened between 1992 and 1997 to put climate-change on the front burner?

My professional opinion as a scientist is that man-made climate change is more of a religion than something based on actual science. It is based mainly in activism, which is very dangerous. The people pushing this are out to control other people, and that is the main precedent behind the movement.

Some of the climate change activists are starting to say that there should be no more oil-production, since fossil-fuels put CO2 into the atmosphere. I will not argue about the latter. However, 10 calories of fossil fuels go into every food calorie consumed by a human. If these activist get their way, a very large segment of humanity will be doomed to starve to death. Maybe they are okay with this to save mother Earth.

The funny thing is, as we move our power plants from coal to natural gas, our coal industry will continue to thrive. Why? They are exporting the coal we will regulate out of use here to China and India, who are burning coal like crazy, and paying premium prices for U.S. coal.

So regulating coal consumption in the U.S. will have absolutely zero-effect on global climate change. China is more than willing to burn coal to get energy to its people. Just a fact.

I wonder if the regulations the President is proposing will increase energy costs for Americans?

President Barack Hussein Obama's goal is to increase the pain on all citizens. He has boasted many times that his goal was to cause energy prices to skyrocket. His goal is a Euro Socialist government with the same results we now see in Europe with nations going broke and over 25% unemployment.

Personally, I wouldn't doubt that in the back of President Obama's mind is that if he can cause enough pain, continue to campaign as if none of it is his fault, he could somehow declare an emergency to stay in office.

An objective common sense opinion... well said z. It's bad science that feels good.
