Yeah, he's a very serious contender ...

Rolling Eyes

Rubio’s turning on his own bill would be an extraordinary turn of events. After playing a major role in drafting the legislation, Rubio has been its public face since then, making countless appearances on television, radio, and in print to gather support for the legislation. What has changed that would mean he would not vote for his own bill? If anything, the security measures in the bill were slightly strengthened in the Senate Judiciary Committee; the bill’s original intention to apply new security provisions only to “high-risk” sectors of the U.S.-Mexico border was expanded to apply to all sectors.

So it would be hard to argue that the Judiciary Committee changed the bill in ways that would make it unacceptable to Rubio. But now he says he will vote against the bill approved by the committee, unless major changes are made. It is hard to tell if Rubio really disagrees with the substance of the legislation approved by the committee — he suggested to Hewitt that he would vote against the bill because it wouldn’t pass without the changes, not because he objected to particular passages in the bill — but the result would be that the principal author of comprehensive immigration reform would vote against it in the Senate.

Why doesn't he just pull the bill then since he authored it?

He is not voting for his bill because of the add-ons pushed forth with the legislation that include gay rights/gay marriage stuff.

Whatever.

The Repukes are looking to jump ship on this for any reason they can find because they live in fear of the teabaggers.

How's that Hispanic outreach going?

lmao.

Try educating yourself. It was in the news last week. Why can't Dems not add crap to good bills that need to be passed?

And, the Dems didn't include any of the gay rights/gay marriage stuff for fear of imperiling the entire bill.

Edjumacation - get some!

And....reports are that this will COST taxpayers big bucks...does that surprise anyone?....Instead of just passing a straightforward bill the add ons will kill this legislation and the problem(s) will continue with both sides blaming each other and no solution to a decades long issue...Both sides are responsible for not protecting the border and dealing with illegal immigration...

I like Senator Leahy.....I think he is one of the most intelligent senators. However, how does this intelligent man put an add on about gay rights in an immigration bill which has millions of people living in an underground economy which is hurting the American economy. Was this simply a strong belief in equality.......or was this very intelligent man willing to kill the bill in order to win mid term elections in 2014......

He was called 'Leaky' Leahy for a reason.. Had a little problem of speaking about things that shouldn't have been spoken about that involved military operations....If it's because of his intelligence and/or strong belief in equality the compose and introduce legislation dealing with the topic(s) he believes in...

Not any different (except to a hypocrite) than Harry Reid voting no against his own party bills as a procedural action when he can't get exactly what he wants. It's called current politics and one reason everyone infesting the house needs to be voted out. On both sides.

You mean like when Reid votes no so he bring another cloture vote on the same piece of legislation in the future?

Ummm, ... yeah, kinda different.

Ummm, different in what way? Oh that's right, Reid is a liberal so it's OK for him to use procedural games to get what he wants. I refer you to my previous post about "except to a hypocrite". IRMC.

So if it's a dem...it's procedural and a smart move for the future....and if it's a republican it's obstruction...dishonest....and somehow improper?...If there is anyone that believes that it's only ONE party that plays politics with legislation than they are truly fools or.....'sal'....

Looks like you have yet to find a partner here.  Aren't there more productive sites for you to troll?

I am so tired of add on legislation.   If something cannot stand on its own merits....lets screw up important legislation.....Senator Leahy.....a respected Democrat is responsible for this screw up, and in my opinion the Democrats do not want this issue resolved before the 2014 election.  People will suffer from this nonsense.  It is time to fix this nonsense, and Rubio is not responsible for this FU.

, as Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) explained, "We’re in a demographic death spiral as a party and the only way we can get back in good graces with the Hispanic community in my view is pass comprehensive immigration reform."
Or, as Oliver put it, “We choose to help you not because we want to, but because mathematically we feel we have to.”

The Republican Party is a geographic party now predominately made up of the Dixiecrats and this growing splinter of nihilist who want all government to fail.....even the traditional Republicans in other geographic areas of the country are closer to traditional democrats than they are to the crazies...the party needs to get the traditional catholic conservative Hispanic vote if it can ever be relevant, but this is the antithesis of the old Dixiecrats who do not want brown skinned catholics in this country.....it really is that simple, and 2014 and 2016 will have the special interests in a jam when the demographics no longer can allow them to exploit the traditional racism of the Dixiecrats and the Republican Party crashes in the ashes of history where probably there will be a split as we now know it. People can make fun of President Bush, but he knew the Hispanic voters are conservative and necessary to make the Republican party relevant.....he too got consumed by the crazies, and his brother Jeb is swimming upstream as is Christie because the primary power structure remains controlled by the Dixiecrats.

Rubio May Vote Against His Own Immigration Bill 9k=

Why should I outreach to the Hispanics when I'm busy outreaching to 100 million SE Asia's?

Just think of all the jobs and construction work that will have to be done over the next decade or two when 20 legal applicants are accepted for every amnesty to an illegal foreign national that you supposedly enlightened progressive liberals want to grant.
