If you fertilized first, that may be the problem with the wildflowers, Teo. Lots of them, especially the ones that you buy in a pack or a bag, love untended, otherwise yucky garden areas. Every time I've planned for and planted wildflowers, they fizzle out. If I throw a box of seeds on the ground at random, they tend to do much better. Throwing out a bag or a box during the coldest part of the year helps, too, since the seeds are stratified.
Gunz - I had a container veggie garden this year. I just haven't had the time or energy to do much more than that. My squash didn't even sprout. The cucumbers didn't produce. The cherry tomato plant grew one batch, died back, and started over again. It's now in its second production phase. Prolific plant!!! Our jalapeno pepper plant looks like a small tree. It actually made it through the winter, outside, in a large container. It's provided way more peppers than we will ever use! I give them away often.
My herbs, both container and in-ground, did extraordinarily well this year. They love to be ignored, and they seem to love strange weather.
My usually gorgeous gloriosa daisies didn't come up this year. I always let them reseed, but the winter must not have been cold enough to stratify them. I did have one plant that popped up, so I'm keeping some seeds in the fridge for next year.
I was thinking last night about planting peanuts. Anybody ever done that? In a smaller garden or yard? I think it woud be fun! I got the idea when I was eating boiled peanuts the other night.
