When will this insanity stop. The county has property.......constantly trying to buy property which will enhance the value of surrounding property. The voters put this down.....yet now they are calling the courthouse non functional.....BS......somebody among the good old boyz has the property selected and the taxpayers get the shaft and the neighboring properties go up in value....

Some people expect the taxpayers to fund their real estate speculation. Nothing to see here, right Seaoat?

It needs to be built where and whenever it can be done. The current courthouse a dangerous and germ/mold filled goat rope.

goat rope.

In Europe they keep their public buildings for 200 years....in America we tear them down in 50 years because we store rope and goats in them......why don't we take care of what we have?

We went through this once before. The former commissioners (voted out of office) wanted a new court house built on Hwy 98 in Pace. The area was already over crowded and new roads would have had to be built to allow access.

I do agree with PD....we need a new court house but it should be built on county owned land.

There is plenty of space in the County building with plenty of parking. You could easily get two courtrooms in the building and relieve some of the issues by scheduling. There is no need for a new building. When will these Taj Mahals quit being built? If a lawyer or judge is that lazy that they cannot hop in their car and travel a mile to the other courtrooms......well then let them pay for 15 to 20 million. If you say something is old and worn out long enough, and do not do preventive maintenance........well you win.......the voters are tired.......heck....whats a itzy bitsy one cent sales tax..........my reply drive a few blocks boyz.

There is not enough crime in SR County to warrant a new courthouse. We need to have some of our criminals move one county over.

When was the last time multiple hurricanes hit buildings in Europe and flooded them out completely? About never.

You need to go sit in court. You don't have anything else to do. The PNJ covers just 1/10th of what happens. There are murder trials that happen all the time that the PNJ never covers.

You need to go sit in court.

I have watched many hearings and trials in the courthouse. It is functional. They used to have everything in there and in the early 80s I would search a property record in the building, yet today with most of the other County functions moved over to the County building, they are complaining about space. It would be easy to move all traffic and misdemeanor over to the County building. This would take most of the crush off the existing building.

I do agree that the building has had portions of it severely damaged by hurricanes, but that alone is not a basis for tearing down the building. How about 10 more years. Create two courtrooms in the County building for pennies on the dollar, and quit talking about a need for a taj Mahal.
