1948 -- Escambia General Hospital opens, becomes University Hospital.

1951 -- Baptist Hospital opens.

Went once about 30 years ago. Got some stitches after an accident. I got very good service there. I was surprised.

Wasn't that the one that was located on Leonard St next to the Sheriff's Dept intake center?

I think it is part of Jail now. Might be the intake center.

I wasn't here then...but my MIL worked at the old University Hospital. I went to lunch with her...also was a patient there once. It was a shame when they closed it...or that they apparently couldn't keep it going as a walk-in clinic.

I used to work for the ECSO so I used to eat over there a lot. They had surprisingly good food. I had a few stitches and some other procedures done there. Back in the day I seem to remember that had some "Foreign" Doctors. Maybe 1948-50 it was on Lenord between Auto Zone and where the Old Sheriffs off is now. It was like a old Military style hospital, made of wood with large covered walkways connecting the buildings. I remember it because that is where I had my Tonsils removed. Long since been torn down.

I remember the old wooden buildings. They were used as outpatient clinics after the " new" hospital was built. The hospital sponsered the Pensacola Education Program. Many of our physician specialist trained there.
