Veterans Day is Sunday... Thank you veterans! Vetera10

Please don't turn this thread into a flame war about draft dodgers or about the greedy MIC. This is a tribute to our veterans, some of which have given everything they can give.

AMEN to your thread and to your comment!

This was just e-mailed to me. I guess it is true. Here it is without the pictures. It is a short read.

WHY DID MR. ROGERS WEAR A SWEATER?

Captain Kangaroo passed away on January 23, 2004 at age 76,
which is odd, because he always looked to be 76. (DOB: 6/27/27 )

His death reminded me of the following story.

Some people have been a bit offended that the actor, Lee Marvin,
is buried in a grave alongside 3 and 4-star generals at Arlington National Cemetery .
His marker gives his name, rank (PVT) and service (USMC).
Nothing else.

Here's a guy who was only a famous movie star who served his time,
why the heck does he rate burial with these guys?
Well, following is the amazing answer:

I always liked Lee Marvin, but didn't know the extent
of his Corps experiences.

In a time when many Hollywood stars served their country in the armed forces
often in rear echelon posts where they were carefully protected,
only to be trotted out to perform for the cameras in war bond promotions,
Lee Marvin was a genuine hero.
He won the Navy Cross at Iwo Jima .
There is only one higher Naval award... the Medal Of Honor!

If that is a surprising comment on the true character of the man,
he credits his sergeant with an even greater show of bravery.

Dialog from "The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson":
His guest was Lee Marvin...

Johnny said, "Lee, I'll bet a lot of people are unaware
that you were a Marine in the initial landing at Iwo Jima...
and that during the course of that action you earned
the Navy Cross and were severely wounded."

"Yeah, yeah... I got shot square in the bottom and they gave me
the Cross for securing a hot spot about halfway up Suribachi.
Bad thing about getting shot up on a mountain is guys getting
shot hauling you down. But, Johnny, at Iwo , I served under
the bravest man I ever knew...
We both got the Cross the same day,
but what he did for his Cross made mine look cheap in comparison.

That dumb guy actually stood up on Red beach and directed his
troops to move forward and get the hell off the beach..
Bullets flying by, with mortar rounds landing everywhere and he
stood there as the main target of gunfire so that he could get his
men to safety.
He did this on more than one occasion because
his men's safety was more important than his own life.

That Sergeant and I have been lifelong friends.
When they brought me off Suribachi we passed the Sergeant and
he lit a smoke and passed it to me, lying on my belly on the litter and said,
"Where'd they get you Lee?"
"Well Bob....
if you make it home before me, tell Mom to sell the outhouse!"

Johnny, I'm not lying, Sergeant Keeshan was the bravest man
I ever knew.
The Sergeant's name is Bob Keeshan.
You and the world know him as Captain Kangaroo."

**************************

On another note, there was this wimpy little man on PBS,
(who passed away) ,
gentle and quiet.

Mr. Rogers is another of those you would least suspect of
being anything but what he now portrays to our youth.

But Mr. Rogers was a U.S. Navy Seal, combat-proven in
Vietnam with over twenty-five confirmed kills to his name.
He wore a long-sleeved sweater on TV, to cover the many
tattoos on his forearm and biceps.
He was a master in small arms and hand-to-hand combat,
able to disarm or kill in a heartbeat

After the war Mr. Rogers became an ordained Presbyterian minister
and therefore a pacifist.
Vowing to never harm another human and
also dedicating the rest of his life to trying to help lead children on
the right path in life... He hid away the tattoos and his past life?
and won our hearts with his quiet wit and charm..

America's real heroes don't flaunt what they did;
they quietly go about their day-to-day lives, doing what they do best.
They earned our respect and the freedoms that we all enjoy.
Look around and see if you can find one of those
heroes in your midst.
Often, they are the ones you'd least suspect, but would most like
to have on your side if anything ever happened.

Take the time to thank anyone that has fought for our freedom.
With encouragement they could be the next Captain Kangaroo or Mr. Rogers.

Any particular reason? That's a pretty odd thing to say, y'know.

Ghost_Rider1 wrote:Chrissy, I am sure that none of the veterans on this forum neither want nor need your son's opinion. His opinions are nothing but inconsequential anyway. The veterans here have more patriotism in the little finger than he has in his whole body.

So you son can stick it where the sun don't shine and for your feeble little mind that is up his nasty dirty little ass.

Yes I did send her that in a PM because I wanted to keep try and keep Eric's thread somewhat civil on this special occasion to all of out brave men and women, some of who have given all they possibly could. I will not lower myself to Chrissy's standards and castigate any of our veterans openly, but I certainly will do it in a PM to those that deserve it. If Chrissy's has the audacity to do it, then more power to her.

well then, your going to have to grow much bigger balls then just wishing well a bunch of people who have faught in wars then to impress me. becuase as I said, they hate your fucking guts.

because YOU have NOT stood by them. YOU have allowed them to be BASHED

if you think paying patriotism to them once a year is good enough while they are sacraficing and dealing with all the hate you's coming at them on the way home, then you have another god damn thing coming and need to wake up to the facts of LIFE

I have the utmost respect for the young men and women who serve our country. I am not denigrating them. If someone is trashing soldiers on a thread, it isn't me. I tried to keep this thread respectful.

I guess I will take another hiatus from this hateful forum... bye for now.

Kissinger bashed the troops and we are still forced to kiss his whithered Zionist ass..

In Haig's presence, Kissinger referred pointedly to military men as
"dumb, stupid animals to be used" as pawns for foreign policy.

That nice of you, as you can see my son was bashed.

my son has been bashed the entire time here and else where

and people want to roll out some kind of god damn flag waving shit on a holiday to make them feel all yummy inside

well fuck those people

they didnt defend these young men and women when they really needed it

and they know it

I dont know but apparently some people here just think the rest of the world is stooooopid

well they aint

and they are mad

if you wanted to uphold a dignity for soldiers, then you should have stood up for them when they needed it

but dont go waving the fucking flag of patriotism when you shit in the faces of those who risk thier lifes just because you THINK your goal was more perfect. Thier life was in just as much danger

fuck off all you SOBs

if you dont get it, at this point I really dont give a shit.. shallow bunch of farts

IF WE REALLY CARED ABOUT OUR TROOPS WE WOULD PROTEST MULTIPLE DEPLOYMENTS AND THE POLICY OF DRUGGING THEM TO KEEP THEM "OPERATIONAL". We would stop all these wars of empire building....We would use our troops to defend the nation and their families NOT in premptive wars which make the MIC rich and corporations flush with cash......We are misusing our young men and women and they SHOULD HATE US FOR THIS FRICKEN LIP SERVICE HOLIDAY..We should be marching on WASHINGTON......!!!

War is a racket!

Smedley Butler: War is just a racket. A racket is best described, I
believe, as something that is not what it seems to the majority of
people. Only a small inside group knows what it is about. It is
conducted for the benefit of the very few at the expense of the masses.

I believe in adequate defense at the coastline and nothing else.
If a nation comes over here to fight, then we'll fight. The trouble with
America is that when the dollar only earns 6 percent over here, then it
gets restless and goes overseas to get 100 percent. Then the flag
follows the dollar and the soldiers follow the flag.

I wouldn't go to war again as I have done to protect some lousy
investment of the bankers. There are only two things we should fight for. One is the defense of our homes and the other is the Bill of Rights. War for any other reason is simply a racket.

And war is the most profitable racket in the world!

You folks can now go back to honoring the vets in your own way...

I think telling our young people the truth of what they fight for is honoring them... Should our troops be guarding Poppy fields ?

According to a show I watched on NatGeo a couple days ago, most of the units in Afghanistan have DEA agents embedded with them. I don't know if it was scripted for the show or not, but when they came across poppy fields like this the DEA agent gave the order to burn them and burn them they did.

TEOTWAWKI

That is pure BS propaganda....

Why are they walking through flowering poppy fields and not agent oranging them...look man there's a buck to be made and you can be sure we are making it.....
