As usual, Charles Krauthammer NAILED the Vice Presidential Debate.

Krauthammer was able to sum up the debate with one simple statement:

“If you read the transcript, I think it’s dead even. If you heard it on radio, Biden won. If you watched it on television, he lost.”

“In the transcript, if you just look at the raw arguments, I think it was even because each side had points to make, it made them. I think on balance, not one side was stronger than the other,” Krauthammer explained.

If you heard it on radio, he said Biden would have sounded “aggressive, forceful – he was sort of on the attack all the time.“ He said Ryan reacted with ”excessive deference” and allowed himself to be cut off.

On Biden’s performance on television, Krauthammer said the vice president was “so disrespectful.”

“It was sort of almost unprecedented and hugely condescending. I think that undid the force of his arguments,” he added.

Maybe if Romney had not been such an ass at the first debate, Biden would have held a different demeanor last night. Personally, I felt the payback was sweet.

When Mitt pulled a classic Gish Gallop and steamrolled the moderator, a new phase of presidential debates was entered. If you saw the last VP debate, he conducted himself with Decorum. You win debates by cheating when the moderation is weak. Biden's behavior was simply inexcusable, but Romney's was just as bad.

The answer is in strong moderation and clear rules. I posted earlier that a warning should be given for interruptions and the moderator should have some ability to reward with additional minutes to a person who was interrupted after fair warning is given. I was not a fan of Ryan because he was associated with Romney. However, I think he and the president conducted themselves presidentially, but barking Joe, and Mitten the Kitten were just your classic bullies......and now they are being rewarded for their bad behavior because clearly the rule breakers won the debate.

I would like to see a Lincoln Douglas single issue series of debates where each candidate would have 13 minutes to talk about the subject matter.

We need more substance, facts, and logic to be discussed in much more depth than the superficial coverage which was given. An example was Romney lying that he never favored giving a 20% tax cut to the top 1%, yet on video during the Republican debates he clearly states that he wants to give a 20% cut and specifically he said to the top 1%, and his platform is written where all will receive the cut. This format allows to much room to bully a moderator, and it fails to give each candidate enough time to develop issues, and we saw the Gish Gallop is rewarded with half truths and very quick repetitions which simply cannot be discussed or replied. The smirks on the VP were unacceptable.

I agree seaoat in that Biden did his 'job' by behaving as he did BUT it cheapens what was a meaningful process to give the voters more information and maintain a respectful dialogue. Now the vitriol is exposed but as a Democrat it had to be done . . . . proud? Not really. Fighting fire with fire?

I'd like to see an unmoderated debate. Just put them on stage and let them argue for an hour.

I just heard on the way home on NPR a woman who was a healthcare specialist who they asked to determine who was telling the truth about medicare at the debates. She said medicare as it is now is a guaranteed program for the elderly health care costs. The program Ryan devised has a set limit so Biden was telling the truth. They also asked about Ryan saying the plan he devised was with a democrat which was true but this democrat guy backed out supporting it when Ryan changed it. So Biden was correct in "saying not one democrat supported it".
