Britain to ban all new petrol and diesel vehicles from 2040

Here's more "Fake News" about the "Fake issue" of climate change. The Brits are taking this very seriously as is France and the rest of the world. Of course our brilliant anti-science mud head right wingers continue to scoff at the mere idea that man's activity could influence the climate.

Seems our educational system is failing in the areas of teaching science, civics and critical thinking skills. Other than that we're in great shape. It is unbelievable how brainwashed an entire country can be, or great chunks of its people anyway. We're number one all right.

Britain is to ban all new petrol and diesel cars and vans from 2040 amid fears that rising levels of nitrogen oxide pose a major risk to public health.

The commitment, which follows a similar pledge in France, is part of the government’s much-anticipated clean air plan, which has been at the heart of a protracted high court legal battle.

The government warned that the move, which will also take in hybrid vehicles, was needed because of the unnecessary and avoidable impact that poor air quality was having on people’s health. Ministers believe it poses the largest environmental risk to public health in the UK, costing up to £2.7bn in lost productivity in one recent year.

We are looking at electric vehicles for a purchase of a new vehicle in the late fall. There are great options available right now, as the glut of carbon fuel causes oil and gas prices to continue to drop, while the logic of electric vehicles grows with better products each year. The demand for the same is not jumping off showrooms but if every state starts raising the fuel tax significantly with these depressed prices, we can fix our infrastructure and ween ourselves off foreign energy dependency. Raise gas taxes by fifty cents a gallon across America right now.

Here's the big problem: If we all got electric cars, we'd need four times as many new electric power plants, and four times as many transmission towers to get that power to our homes! Imagine a landscape cluttered with power lines; how else will we get four times as much electric power at home or at work to charge all these things? These aren't just golf carts.

The majority of Americans are concentrated around urban areas. Our electrical grid is part of the promised updates to bring America back to prominence. As we were spending close to a trillion dollars a year on imported oil for close to a decade, we could have been investing in our infrastructure. I live in a small town where the electric and telephone infrastructure was last upgraded after WWII. My wife's town had an operator to place calls out of town until the mid sixties. No, the Oil and gas lobby which hooked America on foreign expensive oil is now freaking as America is generating growing amounts of our energy needs from renewable energy and as we break the chains of dependency.

A fifty cent tax on the gallon would pour trillions into infrastructure upgrades and free this nation from continuing to pour trillions down a military rabbit hole to secure global oil. I always know what I am talking about. If only you had to the intelligence to teach me something like some of the people who are gone now, I would be all ears, but you insist on being stupid.

It will need a lot more power for each horsepower in practice, and most small cars can make a maximum of at least 150 HP today. Wimpy electric cars might make do with just 20 HP maximum, or 10 HP for cruising at 55 MPH, still needing 15,000 watts to make just that!

75% of the heat energy of combustion is wasted converting heat to spinning motion in a power plant, converting that motion to electricity, transmitting it to your home, using it to charge a battery, and converting it back again to motion in your car, all with more heat losses over simply burning the same fuel in your car to make that motion directly.

When a normal car is junked, the most poisonous thing is its little battery. When an electric car is junked, it's a huge cesspool of lead, lithium, mercury, and a smorgasbord of poisonous heavy metals from its huge batteries, in addition to all the regular items from normal cars. Let's not even consider the expense and environmental considerations involved in manufacturing and transporting all those batteries from China to make an electric car in the first place.

I still wish that folks would get behind raising the gas tax to fund infrastructure projects. Two years ago I was paying three bucks a gallon. It is now near two bucks a gallon. The market is flooded and we can expect five years of low prices. If we passed a dynamic gas tax, we could raise trillions over the next decade which could create jobs repairing bridges, roads, and crumbling power grids. The gas and oil oligarchy lead by the Koch brothers agenda to destroy government cannot be allowed to hurt America. We have some parts of America where the roads and bridges just wash away.....the panhandle, and where dirt roads still cover much of an area as drug addiction has become the number 1 cause of death over disease and auto accidents. Creating high paying prevailing wage jobs in infrastructure repair. There are good answers for America and there are good answers for the Koch Brothers......these are moral choices.
