What you're "just saying" is precisely the kind of insulting crap that alienates people from each other and helps cause the tremendous division among the American people.

For all the continuous, mind-numbing criticism of Obama for supposedly being "divisive," there is nothing more divisive than the very same people who constantly accuse him of this.

Just spend a few days seriously listening to the pollution of conservative talk radio, droning on and on and on and on and on with their unending talking points, continually bashing "the left," "liberals," "progressives," whatever --  day after day, month after month, year after year, making of non-conservatives a singular, dehumanized group to be despised, disrespected and hated.

And y'all say Obama is the divisive factor in this nation?  Are you kidding me???   This is blindness in the nth degree.

Linda, you speak the truth . . . . the right wing machine working to demonize and disrespect the Obama administration NEVER sleeps, 24/7/365 dehumanize and tear down  . . . . . . . so well said . . . . thank you!!

I disagree....Obama was elected President to serve ALL the people he has pitted democrats/ republicans against each other more than any other President. It started day 1 and never let up.

That's pure bullshit Joani and you damned well know it.  It was your idol Mitch McConnell who started the ball rolling with his initial post Obama inaugurational statement:  Our principle goal will be to replace Obama.

No matter what the issue, even when it was one which originated with the republicans, your hate team shut off Obama at every step.

Your game was to make sure that Obama got nothing worthwhile done.  And you failed miserably.  He's accomplished more than either of the two Bushes.

While you're digging for a response, tell us please, just what the republicans who control both houses of congress this year have accomplished, other than the 9,547th bill to do away with Obamacare.  LOL[/b]

Would you kindly post the source and link for that statement from Mitch McConnell?

Don't know about "forever," nor am I a ratings expert or a sociologist, but it certainly seems true of modern U.S. society that what sells is loud, angry contentiousness.  From video games to TV shows (especially the reality variety, but certainly not only that genre) to talk radio to movies, what a significant portion of  the people seem to want -- what succeeds --  is greater and greater escalation of conflict (including the violent kind), a continual raising of the bar on interpersonal battles. (And Trump, from The Apprentice to the presidential campaign, has tapped right into that wellspring and encouraged it, now hasn't he?)

Hell, as I may've told y'all before, I even wrote to HGTV last year and advised them I was losing it for one of my long time favorite shows, "House Hunters," because they couldn't seem to film one episode lately without pitting one half of a couple against the other, to the point where couples were not just arguing but actively disrespecting each other on screen.  Disgustingly obvious that most if not all of that ugliness was manufactured just to generate ratings.  And what does that say about the viewership? Scary.

I can sympathize/empathize with my husband who, when he listens to conservative talk radio and the continual negative characterizations made thereon, the daily ration of anti-liberal, anti-Obama B.S., says he wishes there could be a law against coming on the air and influencing thousands if  not millions of people with often-blatant falsehoods about our president and/or harshly insulting generalizations about other millions of their fellow Americans.

Look, this is certainly not a trend in my country that I'm proud of nor feel happy and comforted to see occurring.  On the contrary, it's deeply disturbing to me.  But do I want censorship, Pkr?  Of course not, and I question your assumption that "many leftists" would.  (Look instead to some of the religious right folks if you want to see censorship moves in action.)

No, what I would heartily wish for instead is a simple return to civility, to measured discourse, in our nation, but I'm sorely afraid it's a lost cause.   We have unleashed the verbal savagery amongst us, and it is ours.

Keep a hammer in this woman's hand.  She nailed it!

Absolutely . . . . . . she can pick up the hammer!!!!

Thanks very much, knot and SW.  I only wish I were wrong about it all.  Crying or Very sad

Who needs a source and link when we have it directly from the mouth of McConnell  himself??  Just WATCH THE VIDEOS in post No. 31 in this thread.   Listen to something besides the sound of your own voice for a change.

I did, obviously you did not as that is NOT what he said. Again, in your desperation, you misquote and therefore LIED. Again.

I most certainly did view BOTH videos and would like to know exactly what you think was misquoted here by knothead and/or others.   Certainly if they didn't use McConnell's PRECISE, exact words, there was NO mistaking -- by anyone of any reasonable level of intelligence -- the intent of his position as to blocking Obama's initiatives and/or otherwise to keep him from succeeding, and to say otherwise is pure and simple baloney.

Further, Mr. Markle, you don't know diddly about me but the truth is that I am honest TO A FAULT, and am sick and tired of your calling me and others of good intent here liars.   JUST STOP IT.  It only makes you look like a very tiny, tiny person -- and that's putting it as mildly as I possibly can.

So glad you asked....

In reply,

A CBS poll taken several days AFTER its passage; 62% of voters SUPPORT THE GOP continuing their fight. Only 33% are opposed to the fight.

One reason is the outrageous tactics used to cram this up our throats.

Here is a partial list of EXACTLY how it was signed into law against the WILL OF THE PEOPLE. With bribes, payoffs, back room deals, probably blackmail and ALL ON THE TAXPAYERS DOLLAR.

President Obama, Pelosi and Reid have actually had the audacity to call this the most ETHICAL ADMINISTRATION IN HISTORY. WOW.

Louisiana: $300 Million in Medicare Subsidies

NV, MT, WY, MD, UT; $2 BILLION in Medicare Subsidies

VT $600 MILLION in Medicaid Subsidies and for MA almost as much

Connecticut $100 MILLION to build a Hospital

11 States: $8.5 BILLION in Medicaid Payments

Michigan, Bart Stupak $726,409 for airports

ALL TAX PAYER MONEY!

All this for a THREE VOTE MARGIN!

MY GOODNESS, with such horrific malfeasance in office, why wasn't the Justice Department on his case, why not Congressional hearings, why not FBI and whoever else investigating him for possible indictment(s)??

Do you seriously not remember how it was passed... including the final reconciliation?

[size=24]What Mitch McConnell did say is: "Our top priority over the next two years should be to deny President Obama a second term."

Words which make it perfectly clear what the agenda for the republican members of the senate will be: rejection-ism towards every bill or cause Obama should bring up.

Which matches the meaning of the paraphrase I used earlier, and signified a cohesive movement on the part of the senate republicans to press for more division within our political sphere.

And, keeping in spirit with Mr. McConnell, not a day since then has Markle missed an opportunity to denigrate our first black President as well as ALL democrats.

The truth is, since the Civil War our nation has never been so divided.

Somebody tell me please what can anyone achieve in such a political environment?

Let's face it, our nation was founded on hatred and distrust, we're the country of the rich, by the rich and for the rich .. remember? The Native Americans were in the way and inferior, right? Black Africans were inferior and good only to be used as slaves. Catholics controlled by the Roman pope and his ilk are inferior and not to be trusted. Women were inferior to men.

Rule number one: Only white males who own property may vote.

So it seems, there may be some ironic justice about all the hatred and political divisiveness now taking place in America.

One side wants there to be equal economic opportunity for everyone, not just the filthy rich. One wants equality for all, the other side doesn't. One side says find a way for these hard working Mexican illegals to join our country, the other side says build a wall.

One side says people are born with their sexual orientation, let them flourish, we have room. The other side says Jesus wants them to ostracize and punish them socially. It's important to note, this side is the same one that discusses punishing women who have abortions.

One side says let's make access to good healthcare affordable and accessible to all. The other side opposes that idea, believing that only those who can afford it should have it.

The same applies to education -- one side says everyone should have affordable access -- the other side says only the rich should have such benefits.

One side wants the government to do all it can to promote a healthy, productive environment -- clean air, clean water, with harsh penalties for the big companies that would kill our children in a NY minute to make profits larger. The other side says big government is evil, and pushes for an end to any agency that says no to a business, for any reason.

And I haven't even mentioned how one side hates war and the other uses war to make money -- and fuck the human costs.

You mean Fox News and Fox Business providing both sides of news stories with most of their Opinion shows leaning right.  Then there is talk radio for Conservatives.

Then you have ABC, NBC, CBS, PBS, NPR, CNN, MSNBC, CNBC, the Comedy Channel along with virtually all print media led by the New York Times who are  proud of the far left status.  So much so that they actually view themselves as being objective!

Here's a typical fox news story that I'm sure is fair & balanced and will deliver on giving "both sides"
