Airlines Promote Manual Flight, Monitoring, But FAA Guidance Lags

Airliners have so much automation now that after manually taking off, pilots like to "set it and forget it" until they are on final approach at the destination, where they then manually handle the landing.
The new term is "hand-flying," or manual flying, and the FAA lacks guidance for airlines so their pilots train for more of this. Because, not all airports are laid out the same, and if the ILS is down at the destination airport and the main runway is out of use for whatever reason, an airline pilot may have to actually hand-fly a non-precision instrument approach to an alternate runway that is less than ideal, under actual instrument conditions. If they are not careful, they can end-up like this jet:
Hey, wait until they come out with drone airliners, where the pilots are at a computer workstation on the ground...... This is not out of the realm of possibility in the decades ahead.
