A reader commenting about the Trump rally on pnj.com provided the following link to an excellent (IMHO) opinion piece in the New York Times by a respected REPUBLICAN columnist.  Food for thought?

WHY I WILL NEVER VOTE FOR DONALD TRUMP

He hit the nail on the head. Very good article.

It's the bottom line of her post that's all caps.

Thanks Pkrbm. It was a good opinion piece. I am still registered as a Republican, and it looks like the only moderate in the bunch of GOP contenders is John Kasich. I will have to study him more. The others are nut-cases, except Jeb Bush, and he is too influenced by his neocon advisors.

Good to see Knot and others appreciating the piece.   Gives me some hope that, despite the huge crowds and hysteria attending Trump's appearance here, not everyone in the Pensacola area is duped by The Donald.

Trying my best to fathom how any sane American could be in favor of a Trump presidency, I sometimes wonder if there's a belief among his "supporters" (read: fans) -- subconscious or otherwise -- that his wealth will somehow rub off on them if he's elected.

All I know is, I'm an Independent (NPA) but almost want to register as a Republican just so I can vote against him in the primary.

Trump may be duping people...he is after all, a salesman above most everything else. The rest of the field on both sides are just scum sucking, bottom-feeding politicians, people are sick of politicians . All they do is make any promise to get elected and then go about their merry way living like royalty and enriching themselves. Most politicians are quite mediocre when it comes to actually managing the affairs of state. Trump is already rich, maybe he won't be distracted and might actually try to do something to restore America, like he said. He at least knows how to organize and build things.
Bernie's a communist and any fool knows that doesn't work unless you like shared misery....no, I might vote for Trump, if just to shake up that nest of vipers called the two party system. Who knows, might help the republicans find their way back to their base... but also because am still angry how the pubs treated Ron Paul...Democrats, as voters are a sad bunch of gullible rubes, easily scammed and have been for decades, for the most part,  they are beyond help, simpleton slaves that proudly wear their chains.

Too bad he didn't pen such a warning before the "election" of George W Bush, instead of working for his campaign. The country would have been much better off in every way. Too bad there's no candidate on the GOP side with any more substance than Trump...just possibly more veiled rhetoric. Every single one of them is anti-woman and offers nothing in the realm of policy except more war and more corporate fawning.

And Bernie Sanders is not a communist.

No Bernie is not a communist or even the true definition of socialist, but if Trump could come up with some substance and what he stands for I might just vote for him. But I don't believe he can or even get a congress behind him. It will be just like what we have now, nothing is done. He will get up to D.C. piss off both sides of the aisle and that's all it takes for a do nothing congress. We all know the President is just a figure head and it's congress, senate and big business that runs the country. He's pissed off most big business already.

Bernie's a communist

Nope.

Now take a blind taste test. Separate the names from the candidates. Take their positions and put them in a bottle. Now wait 24 hours and pour some of what is in that bottle on your plain grits. Eat the grits. You will vomit on about eight of those bottles, and you will find some tasty grits on about four of the candidates, but at that point you might notice that the label on the bottle does not line up with the contents.........so what is in Bernie's bottle is not caustic or communist, but Donald's bottle contains putrid foul tasting chit which cannot be hid by Donald's personality.
