Alabama might as well just send an invitation to the Justice Department. Come on in guys. Come on down.

No need to reply with an RSVP. Because we know you'll be here. How could you resist?

Because Alabama just took a giant step backward.

Take a look at the 10 Alabama counties with the highest percentage of non-white registered voters. That's Macon, Greene, Sumter, Lowndes, Bullock, Perry, Wilcox, Dallas, Hale, and Montgomery, according to the Alabama Secretary of State's office. Alabama, thanks to its budgetary insanity and inanity, just opted to close driver license bureaus in eight of them. All but Dallas and Montgomery will be closed.

Closed. In a state in which driver licenses or special photo IDs are a requirement for voting.

It's not just a civil rights violation. It is not just a public relations nightmare. It is not just an invitation for worldwide scorn and an alarm bell to the Justice Department. It is an affront to the very notion of justice in a nation where one man one vote is as precious as oxygen. It is a slap in the face to all who believe the stuff we teach the kids about how all are created equal.

Every single county in which blacks make up more than 75 percent of registered voters will see their driver license office closed. Every one.

Yeah Alabama is what it is. Of course you kind of got trolled by the race card on this because essentially the whole state gets the Alabama hose by Jan 2016. Only 4 offices to remain open. That's still ridiculous though.

"In January 2016, a further 12 offices will close. By March, all but four offices in the entire state will shut their doors.

The offices that will remain open, ALEA said, are Huntsville, Montgomery, Mobile, and Birmingham.

"Unfortunately, what citizens can expect are longer lines, oftentimes scheduling way in advance to get an opportunity," said ALEA Secretary Spencer Collier. "Probably the worst is that some... are going to have to travel a significant distance to be able to get that driver's license service."

For those needing to renew existing licenses, you are able to do so online."

Regardless of the intent, the effect remains the same.

The offices that remain will be in the large cities where the largest concentration of minorities reside.

Sherman had it right. The Union army should have truly finished their job. Shutting down driver's license outlets to reduce the voting of ANYONE is wrong. That's the real problem; these former pro-slavery states do not perceive right or wrong. They have never had any moral equilibrium. Is this story for real??

It's real, and what's even more amazing is we have nimrods coming on here and pretending it's defensible.

But then you must "remain a ghost" too. Yep you have an experience for every situation - likely an out-of-body experience but whatever.

No I don't go looking for racial connections to everything that happens in the universe like you hypersensitive (phony ones for the most part) "scaredy-cats" do. I see this for what it is - incompetent lawmakers, and it affects everyone equally.

Only one thing would be worse than being black ... being black and living in any of the Dixie states.
