Russia deceives us again and launches airstrikes in northern Syria.

Jennifer Griffin is one of the very best journalists with outstanding sources within the Pentagon. Pentagon leadership is extremely frustrated by having their hands tied and NOT having a plan in the Middle East. The attack fighters were snuck into Libya by flying them under their cargo jets so they were not visible by satellite or radar. They have an airfield which has "popped" up overnight.

The attacks came as a total, 100% surprise to America. Jennifer Griffin was awoken at 4:30 this morning with a source telling her the attacks were taking place. Her phone calls to top administrative officials met with total surprise.

The Russian attacks are NOT in the same areas where the US is attacking. Russian attacks are not against ISIS but in a totally different part of Syria.

Russia launches airstrikes in northern Syria, senior military official says

By Jennifer Griffin and Lucas Tomlinson

Russian warplanes began bombarding Syrian opposition targets in the war-torn nation's north Wednesday, following a terse meeting at which a Russian general asked Pentagon officials to clear out of Syrian air space and was rebuffed, Fox News has learned.

A U.S. official said Russian airstrikes targeted fighters in the vicinity of Homs, located roughly 60 miles east of a Russian naval facility in Tartus, and were carried out by a "couple" of Russian bombers. The strikes hit targets in Homs and Hama, but there is no presence of ISIS in those areas, a senior U.S. defense official said. These planes are hitting areas where Free Syrian Army and other anti-Assad groups are located, the official said.

Activists and a rebel commander on the ground said the Russian airstrikes have mostly hit moderate rebel positions and civilians. In a video released by the U.S.-backed rebel group Tajamu Alezzah, jets are seen hitting a building claimed to be a location of the group in the town of Latamna in the central Hama province.

The group commander Jameel al-Saleh told a local Syrian news website that the group's location was hit by Russian jets but didn't specify the damage.

A group of local activists in the town of Talbiseh in Homs province recorded at least 16 civilians killed, including two children.

According to a U.S. senior official, Presidents Obama and Putin agreed on a process to "deconflict" military operations. The Russians on Wednesday "bypassed that process," the official said.

Don't let John Bolton and Lindsey Graham hear about this.  They'll have such an intense orgasm it will probably give them a heart attack.
On second thought,  send em a telegram.

I think that's even a higher rating than Hulk Hogan got after he body slammed the Macho Man in Wrastlemania 2.
Has to be an all time wrastlin record.

But let's don't get carried away here. As popular as Putin is, he'll never achieve the popularity of Nikolai Volkoff. The Iron Sheik would put Putin in a chickenwing over the shoulder crossface hold in the first ten seconds.

Come back when you've learned something about the subject.  It will be very helpful to you.

Russia did not attack ISIS but rather the Syrian rebels who are allies of the United States in their efforts to overthrow Assad.

This seems like this is getting alot of attention for something of so little surprise. Obama will fold like a card table.

It was a waste of money to poke his nose in anyway. Either do something or just sit on your thumb. Weak sauce.

I'd much rather have a military a fraction of this size that would never be used because we mean what we say.

Syria is none of our damn business... fuck em all.

Mr. Markle is so busy absorbing his handlers instructions he must have missed Defense Secretary's news conference where he said they are doing exactly what they told us they would do a month ago........what is wrong with his handlers that they do not listen to the SOD who tells us they are doing exactly what they told us they would do a month ago......idiotic and senile.

Sure, it's what they said they would do which is contrary to our goals in Syria of regime change. The Russians believe Assad is their man to work with. Obama doesn't believe Assad should stay in power. Bet you $50 that Putin gets what he wants out of Syria and Obama gets the middle finger.

I really do not think you understand.....there will be chaos without the current regime. President Obama two years ago, understood who was behind ISIS, and what the game was.....he has played it well despite the cries of you neocons......sorry America will not take out one more opponent of Israel nation state.....The neocons are screaming we need to assert ourselves....and the wisdom of the President just is driving folks who want to try these charades again mad.....not that they were not already mad.

....and the end result is that the man who Obama said should be removed from power will now be surrounded by Russian military members, the chem weapons will remain in Assad's hands, and Assad will be given a blank check by Putin to run willy nilly over his opposition until maybe twice as many Syrians die or continue to leave the country.

I understand that you do this to pass the time. But you really do look foolish.

Wasn't it semi-retired President Obama who said about that time or later that ISIS was the JV of terrorists?

I would say the freshman team, but I guess President Obama was giving them more credit than I would. When they attack Israel.....Europe......or America, they may make it to the Sophomore team. The are an illusion created from Sunnis to get America back into the middle east. They are Saudi Arabia and Israel's puppet, and the President did not bite, nor will he.

Putin is dead right, and as usual, America is dead wrong about what needs to be done in the Middle east. Let's review the record of our bad calls in the region:

We put the Shah in power by conspiring to overthrow Iran's first elected president. That led to the Ayatollah and the debacle of Iran parading dozens of American Embassy personnel as captives for more than a year.

We decided to take out Saddam, which simultaneously made Iraq a basket case of political chaos that still reigns, and made Iran the single major player in the entire region. Terrible call.

We decided to help overthrow Gaddafi, which led to another basket case of violently divided factions where a stable country used to be. Another terrible call.

We decided to insist on the removal of Assad in Syria, without considering the most likely outcome if Syria's strongman disappeared -- and this time, fortunately for us, Putin stepped in and saved our ass.

King Salman of Saudi Arabia has been funding ISIS (they're both Sunni), and our government, because of oil, continues to insist the Saudis are our allies. Go figure.

Why is it we can't ever seem to get it right in the Mideast?

Thank you Mr. Putin for saving our miserable, weak, and miss-used asses.

Russia confounds US with Syria military moves

Oct 1, 4:04 PM (ET)
By MATTHEW LEE

NEW YORK (AP) — Now, 1,506 days since the Obama administration first declared that Syrian President Bashar Assad's "days are numbered," he's still there, and a convergence of Western trepidation and Russian resolve could strengthen his position further. But it also could set the stage for a long-sought political transition leading to the end of the Assad family's 45-year rule.

In either case, Assad's Russian and Iranian backers could arguably claim victory.

But there's also a painful third possibility. Russia's decision to intervene with airstrikes this week could just prolong and exacerbate an already brutal conflict that has spawned the largest refugee crisis since World War II and helped the rise of the radical Islamic State group that, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov says, aims to establish a caliphate from "Portugal to Pakistan."

The Obama administration has been criticized, first for a hesitating response to the civil war over the past four years and now for its hesitance to take a firm position on Russia's moves.

[...]

"It's very clear that a fundamental goal of the Russian gambit is to strengthen the Syrian government, and put to rest speculation on Assad's fate," said Cliff Kupchan, Eurasia Group's Washington-based chairman.

"Assad just got a big second wind — Russian fighter jets, SAMs, and troops. In my view, the US-led West is unlikely to change the core of the view that 'Assad must go' in the near future," he said. "Ironically, the best hope here is that Russia gets bogged down in this venture, the U.S. moves to allow Assad more time in a transition — and there's a meeting of minds. But we're not there."

Putin is propping up Assad. Semi-retired President Obama promised us several years ago, and has since, that Assad MUST go. President Obama also drew RED LINES, then when they were crossed and Assad murdered his own citizens by chemical weapons, President Obama ran and hid under his desk.

Shameful.

Russia's not gonna lose their Mediterranean naval facility at Tartus to a bunch of rag-tag western supported "militias" .... or ISIS.

You can count on that.
