Snowden: Hillary Clinton's use of private email server a ‘problem’

Former National Security Agency (NSA) contractor turned whistleblower and international fugitive Edward Snowden on Thursday expressed criticism of Hillary Clinton, who has been accused of mishandling classified data on a private email server she used while serving as U.S. Secretary of State, saying lower-level government employees would ‘not only lose their jobs,” but “would very likely face prosecution” for doing the same thing.

Snowden, who told Al Jazeera's UpFront in an exclusive interview that it was not his “place to say” whether Clinton potentially endangered U.S. national security, did however call what Clinton did a “problem.”

“Anyone who has the clearances that the Secretary of State has or the director of any top level agency has knows how classified information should be handled,” Snowden told UpFront host Mehdi Hasan. “When the unclassified systems of the United States government — which has a full time information security staff — regularly get hacked, the idea that someone keeping a private server in the renovated bathroom of a server farm in Colorado, is more secure is completely ridiculous.”

Snowden is talking chit. He does not know how the server was set up. Nobody has that information. The person who could better inform us as to how secure the server was has taken the fifth. However, there are incredible firewalls, VPNs, and encryption which go from private servers to the internet all the time which are more secure than the government's system. The first clue is it is ONE server. It is not a networked server. There are incredible physical firewall's available on the commercial market when combined with tunnel VPNs and the highest levels of encryption which are BETTER than anything the government could do because it has thousands of portals to its networks. However, my guess is that the person is taking the fifth because he is not a high level security person and that the protocols he was using were inadequate, but that would be pure speculation. The argument that her server was unsecured is pure speculation at this point.

Here's the uphill battle for any democrat.  In your and my lifetime it's very rare that either party has the White House for a third consecutive term.
In reality what happens is,  one party gets the White House,  the electorate eventually gets sick of that party's President and puts the other party back in.  And then the electorate gets sick of that party's President and puts the other party back in.  The White House rotates back and forth.
If that holds true,  then the Republican party will go in this time.

And as much as you want Sanders to become the President,  it's even more of an uphill battle if an avowed socialist is the one you're counting on to buck that trend.

This is not a partisan take on it and it has nothing to do with whether or not I prefer Sanders or Clinton or Trump or Bush or anyone else. It's just the way our country's politics has been working and I see no indication that this election will buck that trend.

Of course Sal and seaoat will say I'm a dumbass who knows nothing.  But that's only because Sal and seaoat are wishing and hoping for a democrat to be the next President.  Nothing more.

I think bernie represents just how far progressivism has taken dems from classic liberalism... the goal after all.

It won't be long before the pretense of private ownership is abandoned completely. Congratulations comrades.

Think about this. Number one, it's unlikely that Sanders will become the President. But even if that would happen, he would face either a republican house and senate or a divided congress. So the only way he could accomplish that goal (even if he wanted to attempt it) is whatever he can do with Executive Orders.
And if an avowed socialist President was to try to eliminate "private ownership" in the United States by using Executive Orders, what do you think the result of that would be?
Maybe not another outright civil war, but something probably approaching that. lol
I wouldn't fret too much about that happening.

Well look at that.  The guy who believes that climate science is a conspiracy, the guy who has been calling for runaway inflation, the guy who claimed that the US is in a currency war with Japan - and is losing, the guy who can't seem to muster a subjective opinion more substantive that "Bad ideas fail", is now calling for an end to private ownership in the near term.

It's not important whether he gets elected this time... or that it happens in the near term. What's important to progressivism... it's very nature... is the gradual incremental adjustments and acceptances of it's agenda. We are headed in a direction... and it's certainly not toward individual liberties or the check of an enormous and growing central authoritarian govt. Your vision is winning bof... it's really not necessary to be an asshole about it too.

Whatever ...

... the pendulum has swung so far toward oligarchy and a new gilded age in this country over the last 40 years, it's hard to overstate it.

And, that's not what most people would consider "progressivism".

But, I realize you have your own glibertarian decoder ring for terminology, so ...

Who do you think originated progressivism?

Lol... I'm amazed people even refer to themselves as that. They obviously have no clue of it's objectives or history.

His failure to recognize the last 40 years where the Oligarchy has allowed runaway capitalism to destroy America, and how the folks now are trying to get the stampeding bulls back on the ranch and out of the cornfield where our seed corn has been gobbled up by greed and avarice where we have failed to invest in infrastructure and America to allow folks to take wealth from America with in many case half the tax rates of forty years ago......he is blinded to reality. It is not socialism which has been implemented over the last forty years but corrupt crony capitalism which has not been regulated by government because Congress has failed to provide for the general welfare of its citizens and has been bought off by 1% of its citizens and the wealthy of other nations to steal this country. Comrade.....now that is funny.

I listened to two different political operatives separately address this.
And both pointed out that several recent elections of Western heads of state have resulted in the politics of those countries moving somewhat toward the right. One was the election of David Cameron who represents the Conservative Party in Britain.

If that's an indication of a trend, then it would contradict the notion that the whole Western world is presently moving further to the left.

Of course Sal and Seaoat will say for me to even make mention of this means I'm a dumbass who knows nothing as always. lol

Have you looked at who the uk just elected bob? And ole seagoat... there has been anything but run away capitalism... it's specific capitalism through govt favors and collusion. It's been the very large gobbling up the small business.

It has a name... and it has next to nothing to do with free markets or real capitalism. That's just a leftist talkingpoint.

Now that is funny....Perry under indictment.....crickets......Chris last night telling the audience he would prosecute Hillary, but forgetting that he is still being investigated for his role in bridgegate.......Walker talking about the crimes of Hillary as prosecutors in Milwaukee are talking about John Doe indictments as his employees have already been indicted for corruption for when he was the county administrator.......and Hillary.....she used a private email server.....I have one, and I could set hers up which NOBODY could breach using over the counter physical firewalls, software firewalls which offer foolproof redundancy, VPN tunnels, and higher encryption levels than banks use with readily available software, and somebody thinks using a private server is a crime or one portal is less secure than 10k portals. Most in Congress have communicated using private servers. Past department heads have used private servers. If you want to make the use of private servers for government a crime.....pass a law, but until then quit pretending she broke the law. She did not......there was NO intent, or no proof of knowingly transfer of classified material to third parties. The General was indicted because he physically handed over classified documents to a third party with the intent to give her these documents to help her. That was a crime. The General had the requisite intent and actual delivery, and he did not fight the charges because he knew he broke the law. Hillary did not break the law, and I will vote for Kasich, but she will be the Democrat nominee......polls mean little when she has lined up prominent Democrats as her delegates in key states.....she has learned how President Obama beat her. Bernie will not beat her and he is a breath of fresh air in American politics.

And there you go again on a tirade. The server is a small percentage of alleged wrongdoing. The crux of the issue is mishandling classified info. It's illegal to pass that along outside of its realm of classification level and then there is the issue of docs that had classifications removed to pretend they were normal comms. She is a first class liar like most of you Yankees.

Wow,  that does contradict what I was told in that tv interview. More evidence that you have to question anything that comes over the television.

My family's roots go back before the Civil War where my ancestors fought for the confederacy. Just because I am logical and intelligent and not knuckle dragging stupid, does not make me or anybody who lives anywhere in this country besides the poor performing schools of the panhandle in Santa Rosa County......(where the mean ACT score tells the whole story about why you have difficulty understanding things), a liar.
