Bernie Sanders and Wordslinger's beloved Socialist Greece...now TAXING ALL CASH WITHDRAWALS FROM THEIR BANKS.

Greece introduces cashpoint tax in desperate bid to raise revenue and stop run on banks as country teeters on brink of bankruptcy
  • Greek ministers expect to raise up to €180 million from the new surcharge

  • They hope it will also deter savers pulling billions out of struggling banks

  • Charge of €1 will apply to all ATM withdrawals and transfers over €1,000
  • But those paying money in to their bank accounts will not be affected

Depends on the bank, size of city and if it is a common practice for that area.

If you're going to withdraw a large sum of cash, you have made that inquiry ahead of time, know their requirements and simply comply when making the withdrawal. That's just good business. You'll also be asked to sign a release before you leave the bank.

Earth to 2seaoat, that is NOT even similar to charging a tax to withdraw your own money.

What is false about his link and post? Nothing. It is fact. I personally withdrew 11k at a local bank in less than 15 minutes to go buy a Jeep cash.

Greece is a total fiscal clusterfuck.  We can all agree on that.

From googling Sanders' views last night for that other Sanders thread,  what I read is that it's not Greece he wants to be the model for the U.S.  It's the Scandinavian countries.
If your premise is that every country on a given continent (in this case Europe)  has to be the same,  that would also mean that the United States and Mexico must be the same.
But I think we know that's not a valid assessment.  So let's stick to the Scandinavian countries and NORTHERN European countries and stop talking about Greece.

The usual way to gauge a nation's fiscal condition,  is with it's debt to GDP ratio.
I found this and posted it to the other thread.  But it should be posted to this thread too.

Debt as a percentage of GDP...

Greece    161.3%

Denmark  45.3%
Norway    30.3%
Netherlands  68.7%
Sweden   38.6%
Switzerland  52.4%
Finland    53.5%

United States  72.5%

So it is quite acceptable for the capitalistic banks to arbitrarily charge me three bucks to withdraw my money from an ATM, but a government is socialistic when they penalize for a early withdrawal from an IRA, or a government taxes the same withdrawal as a means to protect the banking system.......you cannot make this up.

Why do you think you deserve FREE SERVICE from a bank, other than your own, for using their money and their facilities?

When you set up an IRA, you do so knowing that if you withdraw the money early, prior to the purpose of the account, there will be a penalty.

That is not a tax set up to prevent you from withdrawing YOUR money from the bank, AFTER you have deposited the money.

Of course he picks TINY nations with huge resources as his "dream". ONE of our states is as large as all those countries combined. Also, we do not have huge natural resources from which we can pay for all the entitlements demanded by Bernie Sanders.

In the past fifty or sixty years, what have any of those countries created? Nothing.

Several years ago one of the Scandinavian countries was named as the "happiest". A TV news magazine interviewed citizens and none had any idea why. Some said we don't know any better. Wherever we are in life when we're born is where well be when we die. College students were interviewed and said, yeah, it's great. We can stay in school as long as we want and not have to work.

Look at the cities and states who have adopted the most generous entitlements for their citizens. How are they doing?

I realize there's no such thing as a utopia here there or anywhere else.
And I really need more to go on before I would ever know how much I would  like or dislike living there compared to living here.
I can tell you this.  The Dutch were some of the biggest buyers of the Americana I peddled.  Especially antique jukeboxes.
I met many Dutch antique dealers who traveled to Chicago twice a year to buy what I was selling.  Many of them had spent quite a bit of time in the States doing business and were very familiar with our country.
I was always curious so back then (70's and 80's) I asked them how they compared the U.S. to the Netherlands (back then we called it Holland).
Answer:  mixed.  They like some things about America better and some things about their country better.
