Let's see
The last time you guys had a hard on for a foreign leader it worked out so well for you...
OOPSIE... GOP CONSERVATIVES WITH CRUSH ON VLADIMIR PUTIN SUDDENLY FACED WITH COLD, HARD REALITY: STRONGMEN DICTATORS KILL THEIR RIVALS
Whatever happened to that steady stream of effusive praise for Russian President Vladimir Putin from the American right? Remember when everyone from Sarah Palin to Rudy "9/11" Guiliani publicly yearned for an American leader to step up with Putin's "values" and determination? They couldn't say enough nice things about the guy. If you didn't know better, you might think they wanted to sleep with the guy AND make him the ultimate American Idol. Shirtless, macho, unequivocating, free of the political correctness and nuance crippling our own duly elected President. They just couldn't say enough wonderful things about ol' Vlad, remember?
“Putin decides what he wants to do, and he does it in half a day. Then everybody reacts. That’s what you call a leader. President Obama, he’s got to think about it. He’s got to go over it again. He’s got to talk to more people about it.” Rudy Guiliani.
"...a real leader, while our President is incapable and unwilling to lead.” Fox News strategic analyst Ralph Peters.
”people look at Putin as one who wrestles bears and drills for oil, and our President wears mom jeans and equivocates.” Sarah "Blunder Woman" Palin.
“the lion of Christianity, the defender of Christian values, the president that’s calling his nation back to embracing its identity as a nation founded on Christian values. To ever think we would get to the day that Russia would be more advanced spiritually than the United States. I mean, it’s just staggering to see what is happening to this country.” God-nut Christian Bryan Fischer.
‘Putin doesn’t threaten our national security, Obama does,’ comment from World Congress of Families communications director.
There are countless other examples, but why belabor the point? They clearly thought Vladimir Putin was the epitome of strutting, macho-manliness America lacked on the world stage, and all of them made critical comparisons implying Obama was a feckless, timid leader. The right had a man-crush on Vlad, and rubbing Obama's nose in it was seen as a great way to ridicule the President.
But a couple of troubling things have happened on the way to the orgy... Putin's ground forces invaded Ukraine, and now a high profile political critic of the Russian leader has been gunned down in the streets of Moscow.
Suddenly, the conservatives in this country are quietly backing away from their prior praise. No one is knocking on the doors of the Meet the Press studio to slather breathless adoration on Vladimir Putin's image today. No one seems to want to say anything nice about Putin at all.
Maybe it's time conservatives in this country were called on the carpet and asked to explain their previous remarks? Maybe it would be proper to ask them on camera about specific comments in which they wished America had a strong leader like ol' Vlad?
Or maybe they'd have more respect for the "tyrant" Obama if he had a few of them assassinated, instead of messing around with executive orders to correct immigration problems.
How far has America sunk into the cesspool when praise for a real foreign tyrant is seen as patriotic political discourse? They have no shame.
