When it's only their authority being challenged, maybe cops should back up.

Some very good suggestions are made in the following article. Surely a woman with a knife is no real danger to cops in a police station who have tasers, batons, and other non-lethal weapons available . . .

http://www.alternet.org/news-amp-politics/they-could-have-retreated-why-its-time-police-use-new-tactic?akid=12736.260394.fvQVgb&rd=1&src=newsletter1031098&t=7

The question is good judgement, good training. Michael Brown was no threat to Wilson when he ran away from Wilson's car. Where was Brown going? He had already been shot and would eventually go to a hospital where he could be arrested by a number of cops.

Maybe backing up at times would be the best tactic. What's happening all too often now, is clearly a bad strategy.

Scared and never being properly vetted leads to folks taking jobs they should not have. My son in law was a law enforcement major in college and interned with the ATF. He scored first in testing physical and written with two departments which had a six month waiting list. In the interim my daughter who was dealing with cops as a prosecutor told him that he should probably look for other work. She knew he was to abrupt with people, had too little patience, and would have a tendency to escalate to physical because of his size and strength. He went into property management, and my daughter is VERY happy with the career change. We do not recruit Andys.......we recruit barneys.......very very dangerous in the absence of training and vetting. We are paying the price.

They backed up in Ferguson, MO. by only protecting the public buildings, like the courthouse, and we saw how that worked out.

Maybe people shouldn't call out the cops and be respectful?

It's hard to respect some arrogant, aggressive prick in a helmet, ninja mask, body armor, riot gear, and carrying an automatic assault rifle.

There is no respect when it's THEM vs. US. It's clear they're not on the side of we the people!

The ECSD was all decked out in SWAT gear when they did a warrant sweep in the Mayfair subdivision in Pensacola last week. Military helmets and Kevlar vests, assault rifles, etc. They had some kid sitting on the ground with his hands cuffed behind him. We are slowly being programmed to accept the police-state as the new norm.

It's also difficult to respect some punk(s) who decide to play a the knock out game on an elderly person much less anyone, walks into a no-gun zone and opens up with their firearm, breaks into businesses to loot and then burn them down, or drives through neighborhoods gunning down innocent children with their highly illegal fully automatics.

It's pretty clear why it's YOU vs THEM and that you're part of the problem.

I agree with your statement about not respecting punk(s), etc.

Yes, as long as militarized police oppose, harass, threaten, oppress we the people, they will be my enemy. You too, if need be.

I show respect to the police and obey the law, within reason, and therefore they respect me.

I can't say that about the punks who only want control through fear. They are just as much a part of the we the people you're talking about and due to their actions the police have changed as the years pass.

You keep bringing Michael Brown up while by the reports assaulted a police officer, attempted to take the LEO's firearm, then supposedly fled or attempted to return to fight. With all that you're willing to condone what he did.

To me at this time he was just another punk and this refutes the first sentence of your last reply.

You sir, ARE addicted to mental masturbation.  The point of the thread is that cops shouldn't be so ready to apply deadly force when it really isn't necessary.  When Brown was shot at the officer's car, he turned and ran off.  Wilson had no need to leap out of the car and start shooting at Brown.  The victim wasn't armed and had been shot.  He would certainly end-up at an emergency room somewhere, where he could be arrested by a number of cops.  Obviously you have a reading problem if you failed to get that message in the link I provided at the beginning of the thread.

The grand jury obviously saw otherwise.

Therefore it would seem you're the one mentally masturbating.

Are the buildings still burning and smoking down there in Ferguson?

Which hotel did you check into and was it still standing when you left Ferguson?

Once again you squirm around without attending to the topic. What the grand jury found has nothing whatever to do with the subject. What's your problem? I'm advocating that cops should back off a little when there's really no immediate threat to anyone. You're advocating that cops should use lethal force as often as they now do.

When Brown was shot at the car he tried to run off. He was wounded, unarmed and no longer a threat to his killer. Eventually he would have turned up at an emergency ward, where he could have been arrested.

No manipulated grand jury trial, no protests, no riots.

That's my last word on this subject to you ... enjoy your solo hand.

I've never stated that. You're ASSuming a lot.
