Should broadband Internet service be treated as a basic utility in the United States, like electricity, water, and traditional telephone service?

This is the next, oh wait already is the next freebie to the poor masses who lay in want for another government freebie fix.

As soon s they regulate it " THE GOVERNMENT WAY" soon after will come the you cant do this or that and the other millions of regulations that may stifle free speech.

Recall there is also a debate to stop free speech against political opponents. This is a good door to start from for that, don't you think?

You do understand that most of the internet still is delivered to Americans by the telephone companies which are currently regulated?

You do realize the commerce commissions in most states who regulate utility rates have been directly or indirectly doing the same with the internet for over twenty years?

So, government has been regulating internet service at many levels, including even the local level where towns have enabling statutes at the state level to tax and give licenses to those providing alternative internet portals. So this idea that all of sudden President Obama began regulating the internet is laughable.

You do realize that as soon as you re-define the internet as a utility it will give the government more control over it, it will be able to regulate it on a much broader scale.

It will allow the government to impose its agendas.

The GOV doesn't want free market access for those who pay, but it has no problem picking winners and losers itself, as long as the GOV is over it.

Next step.... The GOV will decide what material you can read on the net.

Don't worry though, the big leftist players of the net are all on obamas side.

Might want to think about that for a second. Oh wait, I doubt you will. Anything GOV can power grab along with its big business minions the better. Yeah team.
