Bush interviewed by Brian Kilmeade at the Wounded Warriots Gold Tournament sponsored by Bush.

Here is what he said about Iraq.......

Former President George W. Bush, who before leaving office warned against withdrawing U.S. troops from Iraq too early, told Fox News that America has since learned the "lesson" that Iraqis are not yet capable of providing for their own security.

The former president, who spoke with Fox News' Brian Kilmeade, reacted to President Obama's decision to launch airstrikes in Iraq -- and now Syria -- in a new war against the Islamic State.

Asked if the Iraqi people failed to seize the opportunity to build a new country, Bush stressed: "It's not over."

But he said the U.S. military intervention shows the Iraqi people still need help.

"The Iraqi people obviously are going to have to make a decision as to whether or not they want to live in peace," the former president said. "They're not ready to do it on their own, and that's the lesson we've learned recently."

Bush, in 2007, had delivered a prescient warning about what might happen if U.S. troops withdrew too early. He said at the time this would risk "mass killings on a horrific scale" and potentially draw U.S. troops back into the country.

Those predictions have since come true.

Asked Thursday how he knew, Bush said: "I know the nature of the enemy."

"Anybody who kills 3,000 innocents and beheads people because of their religion or because of their point of view is dangerous," Bush said.

He said the long-term strategy to confront this threat and foster democracy "takes time," and lamented what he described as "impatience" with that process.

"Americans have got to understand that the lesson of 9/11 is still important today as it was right after 9/11, and that is the human condition elsewhere matters to our national security," he said.

Bush said he agreed with Obama's military advisers that the U.S. should have left a residual force when it pulled out at the end of 2011.

But he said he's not going to "second-guess our president -- I understand how tough the job is."

If he he felt so strongly about it, he should've included a provision in the original SOFA that provided for a residual force.

He's not "second-guessing", he's just trying to cover his ass with a little revisionist history.

So, Bush is responsible for Obama not negotiating to renew an expired agreement? Obama apparently has no negotiating ability.....even though it was extremely important and he was advised by his military advisors not to withdraw all troops.

I guess you are right Sal......Obama failed....he did not have the wherewithal to negotiate nor the ability to foresee the consequences.....even though he was warned. His experienced decision.....lol

You really don't believe the Iraqi government would have approved that provision do you? Come on, get real......

So, Dubya starts a war, invades and occupies a sovereign nation destabilizing the entire region, sets up a thoroughly corrupt and dubious government with whom he signs a SOFA which stipulates that ALL U.S. forces must by withdrawn from the country by the end of 2011, .....

..... but this is all Obama's fault because he failed to renegotiate a residual force, when there's was absolutely no political will on the part of the Iraqi government to do so.

I guess you're right, Joanie .....

The Great Decider, who in 1972 was disqualified to fly F-102 jets in the Texas ANG, because he could not follow orders directly given to him by his superiors to get his annual flight physical. A pretend-pilot.

Gosh, what a wretched PR stunt that episode was! The Decider changed his clothes at least 3 times as the photo-op proceeded. First, in a flight suit where he "flew" a Lockheed S-3B Viking for an arrested landing on the USS Abraham Linclon, which was doing circles 30 miles out from San Diego, awaiting the President's arrival. He then posed for numerous photos with sailors....Not that this was not okay, but he was just using them for props as his PR stunt unfolded. Somehow later, he ended up dressed as a fully suited flightdeck man for more photos, and finally, he wound up in a suit for his famous "Mission Accomplished" speech. Then, before he left the carrier aboard a Marine One helicopter, he managed to whack his head on the helicopter door-frame as he boarded the aircraft. He must have been so full of himself that he forgot to duck while boarding Marine One.

One wonders what certain posters would be writing about President Obama if he even thought of trying something like that........ Suspect

I'm no fan of Bush but I am a fan of facts. There is as much speculation about Bushs flight status as there was about Obamas "birth certificate". Neither of the two non-issues hold water. Bush skipped his flight physical because he was getting out in a few months. Obama was born in Hawaii.

One will never know if Obama would put on a military performance, he is too old now and was an admitted drug user when he could have.

As for smacking heads on a helicopter door frame, well,,,,

He was elected and had no foreign policy experience..it is now very evident.

The US has always been a very strong persuasive government.....not any more. Obama sent Biden to negotiate...what a joke.

We should have elected McCain and Palin for their strong foreign policy. We see that now just like Palin saw Russia from her backyard. Woe is us!

LOL......McCain would have been able to negotiate a SOFA.

Palin would have been as useless as Biden. The negotiation, as important as this issue was, should have been handled by Obama.....if, however, he really wanted to follow the advice and warnings of his paid advisors and military leaders.

How much evidence do you need to see Bush's extreme lack of foreign policy experience? Oh, that's right, he just deferred those decisions to the pseudo-president, Dick Cheney (and the neocons). Look where that took us.

One has to wonder where our country and the world would be if there never had been an invasion of Iraq. Someone should have explained to Bush the definition of "folly" and provided historical examples. Hitler, Napoleon, Gengis Khan, and numerous world-level leaders performed aggressive invasions of sovereign nations throughout history. Their campaigns usually resulted in failure and history does not remember those guys too well.

So, Obama decides to do some military adventurism, bombing several sovereign nations back to the stone age thereby destabilizing entire regions of the Middle East and Africa, then allows our embassies in those regions to be completely undefended after killing uncounted thousands of innocent people and pissing off the rest of the local population, then expects no backlash in those areas with said US embassies where there is a power vacuum of anarchy across entire regions...

...but this is not Obama's fault because his YES man staff and he misinterpreted the information at the daily briefings that he was in the habit of not attending.

Do Bush and Obama have to get all the blame.  Do those barbaric muslim lowlifes themselves get a total pass on all this insanity.
When is somebody gonna have the courage to tell it like it is.  That the whole clusterfuck is some 1400 year old feud over which bunch of morons is the heir to that child molester mohammed.

Hospital Bob

I said this years ago and I'll say it again.
What the sensible people of the world need to do is pick a day and time.
And on that date and time we all shoot the bird at the sky and say Allah is a cowardly sissy queer and if he really exists we dare him to strike us all dead. And while we're doing it we all chow down on a pulled pork bbq sandwich.
When nothing happens maybe it will teach those muslim morons something.
