I love history. My Grandfather was a railroad engineer in Birmingham Alabama who was pro union and loved President Roosevelt. He felt that he saved the average man. I grew up with a rebel mother who was a republican precinct chair, and I as a child campaigned for Republicans door to door. I now after seeing this series see how wrong I have been when I see how utterly damaging the Reagan years were to this country. I have visited Reagan's boyhood home and was an avid supporter of trickle down.....it did not work. It lead to the large debt and income disparity in America. The new deal and increased median income was not by accident. National income almost doubled under FDR. People loved him, and the reaction to abuses of the new deal lead to the Reagan reaction.......but in the end........FDR was a great man, and the Reagan years have proved to harm average Americans.

I think fdr signed the most laws, statutes, orders... to have been deemed unconstitutional. Don't forget what he did to asian-americans either. Then we had his unprecedented interactions with the scotus. He knew no bounds... an egomaniac.

I have been watching it this afternoon. It is a great series. He was a great man. America is a great nation. His contributions were many. His failings were many, but always on the side of the average American.

dont worry

I think if every hater would give up their social security check because they hate everything about FDR, we might get some integrity from them talking out of both ends of their body.

First and foremost, it matters not what Chrissy-Poo thinks of FDR . . . he was the right man at the right time in American history. He continues to rank among the greatest leaders of our nation when times were dark . . . . he was the light and hope for a nation suffering. He would have been re-elected numerous times if the constitution would have allowed it . . . .
As to the Roosevelt series by Ken Burns, I have been watching it and learning how people from great wealth recognized the needs of the people and answered the call. A great American family without a doubt . . .

Didn't have anything to do with the Constitution.

It was his mortality that ultimately wouldn't allow it.

Seagoat is ignoring my posts. Fdr is a favorite subject of mine... on par with woodrow wilson.

It's interesting to study progressivism when it's uncontested. Like the first two years of obama's reign.

Haven't a clue how you regard the efficacy of the FDR presidency the people of this nation told the story for us . . . . he will remain one of the this nation's greatest servants and leaders.

Would you like a list of actions... to see which ones you agreed with... and then access the results?

I understand your position . . . it is my belief that by any reasonable standard FDR is the single reason America emerged from the Dark Ages . . . . did some of his programs fail . . . yes . . . . did most succeed . . . . yes. A great man and the greatest American of our time . . .

I've spoken of what I think were international successes... but domestically... and even the manipulations to get to war were subversive. The mic you all lament was built upon his rhetoric... and the media complicity of course. Crisis makes policy.
