I cant think of one time when youve ever been rude in all these years. ever.

I agree.

that's nice of y'all to say... but i've been riled up a few times. if there weren't passion in some of these issues it wouldn't be as much fun. the problem is when we let the issue take a backseat to personal attacks. i miss seaoat for his trash talk... lol. FlaTex is fun tho... i'm glad she's here. she gives as good as she takes... with the occasional shrill moment... lol.

It must just be "The Shoe"...and then there's the Othershoe.

My idea originally in picking that name was like when something happens and you're waiting for the other shoe to drop. Of course the first shoe could have been called Fred or something I guess?

And yes I meant to say "we" and not "you". So I'll use myself as the first example.

I started that thread about the congressman and his abortion ideas yesterday. And where I became so disagreeable in that discussion is when I said everyone who has a different opinion than me are just a bunch of "sheeple".
What a stupid thing to say. All that does is create bad feelings and accomplishes nothing else. If you disagree with me, that doesn't make you "sheeple" or any other insulting name, you just disagree with me is all.
I should have given my opinions and my ideas without finding the need to insult you.

And then that thread, like so many here, became another exercise in name-calling. And as the thread wore on, the name-calling and the insulting each other became worse and worse.

I can't change the behaviour of anyone here except myself. But from now on I'm going to try to avoid this with my posts. It's just childish.

I'm kinda partial to three handed logic...

On the one hand, on the other hand, and in the gripping hand...

...It's a Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle thing.

I always thought the othershoe meant when you put yourself in someone elses shoes. Like two sides of a coin. Thats why i always thought that othershoe has another shoe somewhere.....

A common experience of tenement living and other similar style housing in New York City (and other cities) during the manufacturing boom of the late 19th and early 20th century. Apartments were built similar in design with one's bedroom under another's bedroom. Thus, it was normal to hear a neighbor removing shoes and hearing them hit the floor above. As one shoe made a sound hitting the floor, the expectation for the other shoe to make a similar sound was created.

Verb
to wait for the other shoe to drop

(idiomatic) To defer action or decision until another matter is finished or resolved.

(idiomatic) To await a seemingly inevitable event, especially one that is not desirable.

Wow, I'm really impressed with your research! I agree with your described history, waiting for the other shoe to drop on the bedroom floor in the apartment above you.
The name popped into my head when I was trying to figure out a screen name. I was thinking along the lines Chrissy mentioned about offering another perspective from someone else's point of view but that really fits more with the saying: walk a mile in his shoes, or something like that. There are a lot of "shoe" sayings to choose from.
Let's see if anyone can figure out where the 1030 came from!

I always thought a woman should be able to grow an additional arm for every child she bore. It only seemed reasonable! Cute monster.

I try to see the other person's side. I usually am able to do that however, seeing the other side is not the same thing as agreeing with it! lol

If people are passionate about something they are going to get tough on those they disagree with. I am glad you are taking steps to curb yourself, forgive us if we don't that's the least you can do.
When I get my feelings hurt I go off lick my wounds and try to learn from the situation.
It's like homosexuality. I have actually moderated my opinion on it. Vortex is the one that changed it though. His matter of fact honesty about his world makes me see that not all people in that lifestyle are in your face over the top parading porn peddlers. Most are just people wanting to find love and companionship. Who the hell am I to say that is wrong when that affects me not at all ?

I'm glad I was able to help you moderate your opinion. I have no desire to march in a gay pride parade or watch one. LOL

I choose VectorMan because of the type of digital art I create. It's called vector art when working with Adobe Illustrator. But, Vortex is pretty cool!

Really thank you man. It's often the extremists that put everyone in a group in a bad light. I was thinking this morning while driving to a job that from now on I will let god sort it all out. I have always said if god needs me to straighten out his world then he ain't god.

I would love to see some of your art...

Only Larry Niven could come up with such a monster... I'd, you'd, hate to meet it's relatives in the warrior class though.
