Amazing ...

Schadenfreude - GOP in Danger of Losing the House Shoot-yourself-in-the-foot

Shutting down the government may end up costing Republicans control of the House of Representatives.

A series of polls released Sunday show just how damaging the shutdown has been for the GOP. The liberal-leaning Public Policy Polling compiled two dozen surveys, commissioned and paid for by MoveOn.org Political Action, from House districts around the country, taken from Oct. 2 through Oct. 4. Sample sizes were between 600 and 700 voters in each district.

For Democrats to win a House majority, 17 seats would need to switch to their party's favor. Results show that would be within reach, as Republican incumbents are behind in 17 of the districts analyzed: CA-31, CO-06, FL-02, FL-10, FL-13, IA-03, IA-04, IL-13, KY-06, MI-01, MI-07, MI-11, NY-19, OH-14, PA-07, PA-08, WI-07. In four districts, the incumbent Republican fell behind after respondents were told their representative supported the government shutdown: CA-10, NY-11, NY-23, VA-02. Three districts saw GOP incumbents maintain their hold over their Democratic challengers, even after hearing their elected officials' views on the shutdown, including CA-21, NV-03 and OH-06.

How much faith would you put into a poll by a neocon non-profit commissioned by the koch brothers?

If the GOP had any balls Obama would have been impeached long ago. It's just like Bob said, phoney WRASLIN.

John Boehner is stuck between a rock and a hard place. He has to protect Republican moderates, who might be more vulnerable to an election upset next year, while placating the Tea Party terrorist faction in Congress.

He is being stiff-necked about raising the debt ceiling, but he is no longer vociferously pushing connecting defunding the PPACA in order to get a CR passed for FY-14. Now, he is instead pushing entitlement reform; especially for Social Security and Medicare as the Baby Boomers continue to overwhelm the system.

I can acknowledge the need for the latter; gee perhaps Obama will be able to use this crises to push bipartisan fixes to the Social Security system. That would be a hoot!

I tend to look at accuracy when judging a polling firm.

By that measure, PPP does very good work.

The difference dilbert... is that I wouldn't place any faith in either. It must be nice to have partisan faith.

I would think that chaos would ensue if the liberals were to gain control (total) of the government. People voted the Dems out of HOR control after seeing the agenda being forced down everyone's throat. While it is unfortunate nothing gets done right now, it's better than the alternative of forced socialism/communism we've seen from the COWH and Congressional Dems.

AGAIN!!, ...

... with the "force down the throat" phrase ...

... that's already the third time today ...

... what the hell happened to you people??

The extremism of the right will lead to a reaction from the American people which will allow extremism from the left to take hold in this country. If normal folks do not knock down the crazies soon, the backlash in 2014 and 2016 will handcuff this generation. We need steady and reasonable reductions in government at all levels. We need incentives to expand private sector job growth. We do not need dogma.

Right...George W. Bush had 32 articles of impeachment brought against him...and nothing was done. Almost everything Obama's had to deal with has been a direct result of events from 2001-2009. Why would you think the GOP should or could impeach Obama? Makes no sense.

I think you may be giving Boehner too much credit here, Z. He sure looked inebriated in that recent video.

That's funny... I don't recall you making disparaging remarks about ted's character flaws. With greater justification.

Ted's problems...it was all the Bush family's fault.   If you dig deep enough into the Bush family's deep, dark, evil secrets, you will find that it was actually a Bush behind the wheel of the car at Chappaquiddick.

We shall see.

It does appear to me that the left are vying for a one party rule. You know what that is, dont cha?

The Republican party has proven itself to be a threat to the democratic process.

They are irredeemable at this point.

They need to be relegated to the dustbin of history, and something new needs to come along to take their place.

Sane and moderate conservatives need to take the reins back and put the fringe back where it belongs - on the fringe and not in the halls of Congress.

Regardless of how you feel about it, the facts are that the Affordable Care Act passed through both houses of Congress in 2010 and was signed into law by the president. The U.S. Supreme Court upheld the constitutionality of the law in 2012. And Obama was re-elected that same year in a campaign that saw his opponents run on a promise to repeal “Obamacare.”

House Republicans need to accept that the healthcare act, however flawed, is the law of the land, and holding the federal government’s budget hostage to protest this law is a despicable political tactic that could set a dangerous precedent that undermines the very foundation of our democratic system of governance.

If the Affordable Care Act turns out to be as apocalyptically devastating as they forecast, we encourage the GOP to win elections and gain the necessary seats to repeal the law properly. Most of their Democratic peers operated this way when they were elected by the majority of U.S. voters on the premise that they would enact The Affordable Care Act — including the president, twice.

That is how it is done in this great nation, not by financial blackmail.

That is really all they have to do.... Someone should educate Ted Cruz and his fellow Teahadists in the House and Senate.

As you well know, ObamaCare was shoved up our...throats by bribes, payoffs and most likely blackmail AGAINST the will of the majority of Americans.

Fourth reference today!

You people are obsessed.

Of course, Markle is too polite to say what he really means.

He really wants it shoved up his butt.
