Read it and weep. I called the bluff correctly weeks ago while both of you had bombs dropping. Diplomacy was the key platform position of President Obama in the 2008 election and he has actualized the same with Richard Nixon like mastery of Foreign Policy. You both were wrong in your predictions in 2008, and 2012, and the you make me smile as you scramble to try to find something to make the President look bad, but he continues to shine in Foreign policy and stumble in domestic policy, but the domestic stumbles are largely because of a congress who has decided that making the President look bad is more important than making America better. You both could be Ted Cruz protegees......your mothers would not be proud.
Here's the REAL story and when you get off your medicine you will wake up and realize it:
1) Obama drew a red line.
2) Assad said, "Obama, who?", and crossed the red line multiple times from the POTUS statement in Sept 2012.
3) Obama drew another red line with prepositioning ships in Eastern Med as a threat to Assad. Before Assad could even say anything, the America public went into frenzy mode about striking Syria and then sticking his political finger in the air, Obama said, "I never drew a red line."
4) Not being able to sell his plan to the United States populace, he goes overseas where he gets even less support for a Syrian strike than in the US. With his political finger in the air, he gets Kerry to say, "if Syria will turn over their weapons in a week, there will be no strike."
5) In the meantime, Syria's ally Russia is playing the US and Obama like a fiddle because they talk Syria into going along with Obama, but only with conditions that Assad has set out.
6) Historically, Assad knows he has at least a decade of hemming, hawing, obfuscating, and delaying the UN before anything, if at all, will ever happen to him because he watched Saddam (where a lot of Assad's chem weapon inventory came from aside from Russia) do this dance as well. Assad now knows that there will be no ground invasion of which led to Saddam's downfall in 2003, so he is giggling his Alawite ass off back in Damascus and trading Vodka shots with a shirtless Putin in celebration.
Now the Middle East has a strongman willing to stand up to the United States and get away with it. Assad looks even stronger to the Arabs/Muslims than ever before and even eclipses their Middle East instigation partner in Iran. Assad won, plain and simple.
Obama won't do anything NOW, you are right. It wasn't a bluff, but Obama doesn't want to be a 3.5 year lame duck as POTUS or an impeached, lame duck POTUS either because that's the dividing line between Carter and himself in political ineptness. He has little or no political power to cash in here in the US. He has even less overseas. the only thing that might cause Obama to use his cruise missile flotilla in the Eastern Med is his ego and arrogance. It's 50/50 on that too. He's embarrassed and ashamed in front of the entire world and that is a dangerous combination for a man supposedly in charge of the world's most powerful military (that he is trying to destroy) and industrial country.
