In a lengthy Aug. 28 article, Kathleen Hennessey, Richard Simon and Alexei Koseff wrote “Civil rights movement continues with commemorative march.” The article covered the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington providing background on the original march, Martin Luther King Jr.’s famous speech and the passage of the 1964 Civil Rights Act.

About three-quarters of the way through the article, the Times made reference to the Democrats leading the passage of the historic legislation:

The absence of even a gesture of bipartisanship [today] was a reminder of the enduring political legacy of the civil rights battles. Since Democrats led the passage of civil rights legislation that marchers pushed for in 1963, Republicans have struggled to recover with black voters, leaving a stark racial divide in American politics.

Theres more if you read it. I think its safe to say that the left is very clever about revisionist history and the tactics they use to promote their agenda.

We better wake up and stand up to these distrustful, sneaky, underhanded and down right liars as they infiltrate our news, our colleges and our schools with revisionist history and plain out LIES.

The bill was called for by President John F. Kennedy in his civil rights speech of June 11, 1963,[3] in which he asked for legislation "giving all Americans the right to be served in facilities which are open to the public—hotels, restaurants, theaters, retail stores, and similar establishments," as well as "greater protection for the right to vote."

Thanks, p-bum for the voting results from 49 years ago.
Sadly, today's GOP is but a shell of the GOP from 49 years ago. Obviously, from the stats you showed, the GOP from 49 years ago did not think that 'compromise' was a bad word, the way today's tea party controlled GOP does.

Fact is that the Civil Rights Act originated with JFK. He obviously knew he wouldn't get much support from the Dixiecrats, but he went ahead with it and achieved bipartisan support for a compromise, which was signed into law by LBJ after Kennedy's untimely death.
