I guess they plan on throwing the radios at anyone who intends to do harm to the children.

Baldwin schools use radios for security Updated: Tuesday, August 27 2013, 07:22 AM CDT

In Baldwin County schools, dozens of hand held radios will soon be in the hands of principals, teachers and bus drivers - with a direct link to law enforcement.

Former secret service agent Kevin Levy is the school systems safety council director.

"What we are addressing is the need to make sure that that part of the plan that's paramount in any security assessment is to ensure that not only the schools can communicate with emergency responders but we want the schools to communicate amongst themselves. A one unified network an integrated network for the entire county."

Radios were purchased earlier this year - and as of this week radio towers will be going up at each school setting up direct radio contact that will eventually have schools and school buses drivers all on the same network. The school system is spending slightly over a half million dollars on the integrated communications network. It should be up and running by late November.
