DoD Sets Date to Extend Same Sex Benefits, Leave

That means that after September 3rd, this Navy Chief will be able to get benefits for his husband:

Blah blah blah barf and retch ........guess that makes me a bigot . I'll work on it.

I don't understand why those benefits are given to anyone except the soldier... cut them all out and pay more.

It serves two purposes.

First off it keeps those military men living in barracks on base so they can be called upon to work at any time they choose (on base on duty).

Secondly the government doesn't have to pay as much for retirement because things like housing and food allowances don't count as part of retirement pay since they are not considered part of the military members base pay.

My retirement pay would increase significantly if I was paid a portion of the housing and food allowances that I received while serving.
