I have the greatest respect for Old Glory and our guys & gals who go into harms way carrying her.

That doesn't mean that I agree with the reasons for or respect all of the politicians who send them into harms way, or some of the officers in our armed forces who are only looking to make a name for themselves no matter what the cost.

I lost respect for myself in Vietnam, after that respect comes hard for me for anyone as dumb as I was. Forgiveness yes, respect not so much.  Actually I respect the one's that fought against us more. Their cause was just and we were the invaders. They took on a Juggernaut and beat it with slingshots.... All that patriotic Bull is just to keep the recruiters able at  getting cannon fodder...

Korea, Viet Nam, and a few other wars/police actions were a bad time for a lot of us.

That doesn't mean you should lose respect for yourself just because you didn't know all that you do now about the reasons why we were there and how those wars were conducted.

That was your politicians and senior military officials job.

If you feel they lied to you about why we were there then you should be, and have every right to be, pissed at them.

Until then, as far as I'm concerned, every guy & gal who serves our country has my respect (unless they turn on my family) because they are just doing their job right or wrong.
