Trying to take guns is like abolishing alcohol and drugs. We know how successful that's been.

Like Sal, I believe we need a more nuanced discussion about guns in this country. A site I just visited cited 25 "reasons" not to take away guns, which were actually 25 incidences in which a gun-carrying citizen saved his/her own life or someone else's because they had a gun. Good! But that doesn't address the issue of automatic weapons or the easy availability of them along our borders...specifically the Southern one.

Every human being on the planet has violence as a part of his/her makeup. Some people are able to channel that tendency into other action, but some people walk around every day with a lit fuse, sometimes fueled by alcohol or a myriad of dangerous drugs. So, a person with a history of criminal activity or a known drug addiction shouldn't be allowed to carry a gun. And what about the issue of guns in the house where children can easily get at them? Less hyperbole; more discussion.

You are aware that criminals may not be following the law(s) to acquire the weapons...Criminal histories and background checks are done and in most states there is a waiting period...Thought you folks were against 'profiling'....
