I will camp with the grandkids on Saturday and then go to the big poker tournament Sunday afternoon. I think I am going to teach the kids some fishing. The channel cat have been biting.

Everyone be safe and have fun. All is good.

Please take a few minutes to teach a child or grandchild about the reason for this holiday weekend.

I'm thinking not too much.
It's chilly here, and supposed to rain on monday. But we need it bad. We're looking at a very bad fire season here in Oregon, at this point.

Very good point......I put my 10 smaller flags in the front yard earlier today, but unfortunately the grandkids are too young to have that discussion. I hope I live long enough to have that discussion. This weekend the four year old is asking what is inside people, and where is papa sick......my wife got this great inexpensive puzzle of internal organs which they can take out and then put the person back together......we are going to work on anatomy this weekend, but in about three years the purpose of Memorial day will be discussed, and I hope they ask about the flags so we can start the process.

Sequester cut 1000 bucks for the traditional kick off of the memorial day weekend at the WWI memorial.........three citizens however went and placed a wreath........I remember as a kid going to huge memorial day parades.....the streets were packed, and spectators were three or four deep......I have not gone to a parade in 20 years.........we are becoming quite removed from the sacrifice of those who came before, and I am glad Biz reminded us what this weekend is about............

I am taking the grandkiddles to see Epic. I hope the movie is not too silly. But it's never boring with the monkeys around..then...crazy frog for ice cream. Then home for a nap and recovery.

It's better someone else teaches them about this holiday I HAVE A BIAS...

This Sunday, registration at 0900 at the Vietnam Veterans Lodge off of 9mi Rd, Memorial Ride to the Wall South. As of Wednesday, over 700 bikers have already registered. This is an escorted ride so no traffic signals. yeah! Please pay homage to our fallen hero's who paid the ultimate sacrifice.

I'll be at the old K Mart on Mobile Hwy cheering them on as they go by!!!!!!

I'll miss Navy Point this Sunday, but the last 3 times I went, nobody else showed up..

Going to a Memorial Day service in my hometown (KY) which is held at the cemetery displaying an American flag on every single veteran grave to honor their service and sacrifice. We will then go to a school class reunion where I will see folks who live in distant places. The hometown has changed but not the spirit of coming home. I hope everyone has a good holiday.

When I was a boy scout, we would place a flag on every veteran's grave, and we would print up a memeograph list. We would greet them at the cemetery entrance, and give them the list.....people would just walk the cemetery. It was amazing how many people would visit and give a half hour to honor those veterans. Our country has changed a great deal. I remember how sad it was in the mid eighties watching the vets arrive for the color guard and firing of the rifles......they were all in their seventies and each year fewer and fewer people showed up..........
