It's thinking outside the box. It's true, the thinking outside the box often makes no more sense than the thinking when it's trapped inside the box.

After I read your reply I clicked on the golden rule link again.
That link surely doesn't define "golden rule" correctly.

The beauty of the golden rule for me, and it's based on what I always understood the concept was, is "do unto others as you would have them do unto you".
That linked page makes no mention of that. Not even in am implied way.

Many years ago, I tried to think of any moral or ethical question or issue which could not be addressed by the golden rule. I could not think of even one.
Of course applying the golden rule to masochism is cited as the one problem. But I'm not much interested in masochism anyway. That's too odd for me to comprehend.

Don't misunderstand something. I am in no way telling you I'm good at practicing the golden rule myself. I'm not. Very few people are.
But I have known people who seem to have made the golden rule almost a part of their psyche and exhibit it in almost all of their behaviour.

Actually, Jesus added quite a bit to that idea when he said, "Turn the other cheek".

That means to not only treat others as you would like to be treated, but also completely reject violence even when violence is done to you.

And, then the kingdom of God will be on Earth, because violence will become pointless.
